A vintage Pezband concert has appeared on YouTube, and that's my excuse for giving this marvellous group their own thread in our ICEbox. It's a complete club gig from 1979, with the guys sounding as great as I remember them:

Wow, great find Linda. Meeting them in 1977 (my band played on the same club circuit) at the time of their first release.

We were the house band for Thursday nights (we were just starting out ourselves) and the Pezband were showcased one Saturday night evening. Luckily we did not play that night so I went down to the "Cuss From Hoe" club and able to meet and hang backstage with them. Mimi Betinis and the boys were such great mid-western guys, non-pretentious and really excited about their first release on Passport records.

Personally, I was in awe of them, especially Mimi. His song writing and vocals were "Lennonesque" and the song writing quality absolutely above most indie rock bands at the time. Glad you have the same love for the band as I Linda.

On the Pezband Facebook page there was a sad announcement that drummer Michael Ruane (aka Mick Rain) passed away from COVID-19 at the age of 68.

Probably my favourite performance of Mick's comes not from the early days, but from a Pezband reunion gig in 2013. Mick really goes to town here on his own composition, the terrific "Office Girl":

I think Office Girl was in the 'favourite songs' thread recently, but that was the first I'd heard of these guys. There are so many great bands who I've never even heard of.

Cliff Johnson, the original Pezband singer, who later found success with Off Broadway, has passed away at the age of 70.
