Allman Brothers Band cancels shows

The Allman Brothers have been forced to cancel a string of shows because Gregg Allman needs time to recover from his recent treatment for Hepatitis C.

The band have cancelled 15 shows at the Beacon Theatre in New York City as well as two shoes at Wanee Festival in Live Oak, FL.

The band are still on schedule to play Bonnaroo Music Festival in Tennessee in June and have announced two shows on their scheduled August tour.

They will play:

Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Music Festival (June 14)
Mansfield, MA - Tweeter Center for the Performing Arts (August 16)
Camden, NJ - Susquehanna Bank Center (23)

This photo is from an on line UK music magazine called Glide. It is captioned in 2 places as being The Allman Brothers in Massachusetts 8/16/08. I'm assuming this is an error, or are we on replacement #'s 500 & 501 for Duane & Dickey?

The guy on the left is Derek Trucks, who is definitely part of the ABB... I'm not 100%, but the woman looks like Susan Tedeschi.

Not only is the woman indeed Susan Tedeschi, but she is also Mrs. Derek Trucks. Lucky guy!

Tedeschi frequently makes guest apperances at ABB shows and can be heard on many of the live CDs offered on the band's website.

No, this is indeed a shot from an Allman Brothers concert at the Tweeter Center in Mansfield MA ON 8/16/08 (Elvis's death anniversary), of which I attended...
Susan Tedeschi came out and played a couple of songs with them....

Being that this is the band's 40th anniversary, I wonder if Universal will issue a deluxe version of the band's self-titled debut. I don't know if there's anything in the way of unreleased cuts that would make the grade, but surely, there must be a concert from that year floating around that could serve as the bonus disc.

If such a project were to come to fruition, I hope they use the original mix. There is a lot of confusion over which CD versions of the debut have the correct mix. Apparently, it was remixed for the Beginnings collection (double album/twofer CD) and it's tough to discern which CD reissues did or didn't use the correct mix.

there is going to be a allman brothers 40th anniversary tour, it has been confirmed.

it has also been confirmed that the tour will include many 'surprise" guests.

it has also been confirmed that dickey betts will NOT be one of those guests.

The Allmans are scheduled for their yearly stint at NYC's Beacon Theater, playing 10 dates in March. Last year's sked was cancelled due to Greg's illness.

The Beacon has just completed extensive renovations, and will kick off its grand reopening with a pair of shows by Paul Simon on Feb. 13th & 14th.

It's too bad about Dickey. I guess Dickey Betts is a closed door as far as Gregg is concerned. Lot of water under the bridge for those two. Based on things I've read, they had a definite love/hate relationship over the years. Still, it's too bad that Dickey couldn't come out for one show, though I'm not sure if he'd accept an invite at this point.

I wonder if Chuck Leavell will play some shows -- he has popped up sporadically over the last few years, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's in the mix. One of the rumored guests is Eric Clapton, though nothing's been confirmed yet.

This is another band that has so few original members left, that they should be calling it "Gregg Allman" or "The Gregg Allman Band".

They have three out of the surviving four originals, which is better than some veteran touring bands these days.

The Allmans were all about their guitars, as far as I'm concerned. Not having any of their guitarists from their best period keeps me from much interest in them these days. Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks are good replacements, but it just ain't the same. Any talk of "special guests" will be to sell more tickets.

It could be worse, "Lynyrd Skynyrd" has been a joke since the plane crash. At least the "Allmans" did a couple great cd's in the 90's.

It could be even worse than that: "Molly Hatchet" has one or none of the original members.

For sure, can they not bury the hatchet for a short period of time? As much as I like Warren Hayne's & Derek Truck's contributions to ABB it would be great to see Bett's back with them (even as a guest on a few of his tunes).

I think the guitarist Hlubek is the only one left.

In 1968, Peter Tork left The Monkees.

A year later, Mike Nesmith left, reducing the group to a duo (Davy Jones and Micky Dolenz).

There was a joke going around the industry that at some point Davy or Micky would leave and the sole remaining member would bill himself as "The Monkee."

What this has to do with the Allman Brothers, I have no clue. :ohno:

Gregg quit bananas several years ago after several furtive attempts.

As long as he stays away from the produce dept, he's fine.
