I've been sitting on this list idea for several weeks so I'm posting the Friday List early today. Since it's President's Day weekend, today's topic is presidents. It might be a toughie, so we'll open it up to lyrical mentions as well as titles (feel free to quote the relevant lyrics). Also, both specific and general mentions are OK. Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos! (that should give Chris a smile.)
Abraham, Martin, and John--Dion
James K. Polk--They Might Be Giants
Warren Harding--Al Stewart
Glad I'm Not a Kennedy--Shona Laing
Dear Mr. President--Pink
Meet El Presidente--Duran Duran
Young Americans--David Bowie ("Do you remember your President Nixon...")
ARTISTS
Presidents of the United States of America
Dead Kennedys

Funky President - James Brown
And a piece of trivia: Marilyn Monroe once sang "Happy birthday, Mr. President" for JFK, but I don't know if that counts.

Slow Children-President Am I
Pink Floyd-Get Your Filthy Hands Of My Desert (Breshnev took Afghnastan, Reagan took Beruit...)
Marilyn Manson-President Dead
Randy Newman-Mr. President (Have Pity On The Working Man)
Olsen Twins-No One Tells The President What To Do-I wish I was making this up, but I bought this CD as a gag gift a few years ago for a friend-and this song was on there!
Carter Country-awful 70s sitcom with wonderfully bad theme song (also, anyone remember the line, "Handle it, Handle it" from the show? Speaking of which-who was the guy with the cheesy stache-was that Victor French? And now that I think of it, is the show on DVD?).

wow.....I actually know all about Carter Country.......somehow. Yes it was Victor French. Plus if you remember an annoying blonde female reporter who was always snooping around and getting in the way, well that was Melanie Griffith. And no, it's not on dvd
sadly, I can say I saw every episode in its original run, plus I'm sure I saw them all at least twice more in syndication. I need a shower now.

The only episode I remember involved a UFO abducting someone. I think the show was on ABC but I can't remember. Guess that's one show that will never hit DVD! How was that shower?

The shower wasn't enough to cleanse me of the memory of that show. I can still hear the theme song in my head.
I remember the mayor from that show doing a guest spot on WKRP in Cincinnati. Playing a sort of Jerry Fallwell type who was fighting against the evils of song lyrics, if I remember correctly.
