Just checked both sites as I haven't gotten emails from either in ages.

It appears that Rhino Handmade is no more at all. The url comes up, but just serves the regular Rhino site. Wonder what they did with the left over stock? None of my overstock suppliers have offered it.

Hip-o Select is still around, but other than an Andrew Wood set, ALL recent releases are black jazz, soul & blues.

As much as I enjoy Motown, it's been disappointing to me that Hip-O Select has seemingly given up on releasing anything that isn't Motown. There is so much languishing in the Universal vaults that it's a shame that they've been so Motown focused.

I haven't been interested in much from Rhino Handmade for some time now. They showed promise early on, but I really won't miss them.

Handmade was probably a goner once Rhino turned into a budget and MP3 label.

You asked about leftovers -- they've been stocked at Amazon for a while: http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?search- ... g=imwan-20

(Some are still in stock, some are now third party only, some aren't listed at all anymore.)

Hip-O has been turning into Universal's Rhino, so I'll guess that Select is probably headed for the sunset as well.

Holy crap--the John Sebastian "Faithful Virtue" Handmade set is listed as $207.41 new, $142.20 used, and $212.00 collectable.

I mean, it's a great title, one of my favorites, but sheesh...

Those are some crazy prices on almost everything, double sheesh...

There's some kind of (limited?) hope out there that a Monkees Present box or deluxe version could be forthcoming one day, there are selective hints, rumours, and innuendo, nothing definite, could that possibly be released on Rhino ?? Stay tuned Bunky...

They were practically giving away the Big Star boxset a few months back.

Such a shame. They were two of the best reissue labels. A few years ago someone here mantioned a Hip-O Chuck Berry Mercury collection which I guess will never see the light of day. Too bad. :(

Rhino Handmade is 100 thousand percent dead according to an associate of mine. All of the in-house stock has been dumped to amazon. Some for the less than the original price ,some for more.
Sad. What has happened to the company Rhino in absolutely criminal and a sad disservice to music.

Huh. Guess the price on the Black Sabbath live disc didn't bottom out when they included it with the remasters. I'm glad I kept that and the Stalk Forrest Group disc.

I wonder what that means for The Complete Motown Singles Vol. 12 (A & B). I keep hoping...

Is the market drying up overall? I've noticed that their releases all used to be "limited to 5,000 copies" and now they're usually more in the range of 2000 copies.

Other than the few kids discovering vinyl, it's our generation & our parents generation (& a fairly small part of both) that still buys physical product, & to be blunt many of us are either dieing of old age or totally fubared by this economy.

Good news: Rhino handmade is back

Bad news: it's The Monkees again. C'mon guys, there's more important music in your vaults than the bloody Monkees!

Handmade isn't back, I don't believe. That was just already completed.

("Bad news, it's The Monkees"? I don't want to know what your PM box is going to look like, Geff. :))
