Actually, all of a sudden she has a new single/video ("Gimme More", her first in two years) coming out next week--its already all over the internet--and Jive has announced her fifth album will be released on November 13th. No word on any tour...yet.

She does need help, that much is clear. I don't think there's much doubt that she is (at the very least) drinking again. Whether one loves or hates her music, is seems clear that releasing a new single or album should hardly be the major priority in her life right now. Of course, I've said this before and I'll say it again--when male rock stars engage in this sort of self-destructive behavior, they tend to be celebrated for it, rather than mocked. Sex, drugs and rock and roll, right?

I think this thread needs to be made sticky.

This has been mentioned, I believe-I don't think it's correct to say Britney has "no talent". She is certainly not a great singer, but she was a very good performer, and may become so again. At least part of the mocking and ridiculing is done by those who are glad to see her fall because they felt she did not deserve her previously lofty position. She's not the first performer, nor will she be the last, to suffer this fate.
She certainly has done nothing recently to help her own case. For whatever reason ,she just doesn't seem to care.
For some people, and it may only be a small percentage, the fact that she is mother to 2 young children may be most disturbing .
There definitely is a double standard, male vs female, when it comes to this type of behavior.

I never liked Mel Gibson, and my impression of him as a phony, self-serving, bigoted ass was only reinforced by his behavior.

Speaking of asses. I too love those Britney ass shots.In and of themselves, they say so much more about the woman than any words can.I hope Britney settles down, makes some good music and videos, and takes very good care of her children.

In that photo above it looks like the guy wearing #84 is quickly trying to throw something on the ground so that Britney may bend over and pick it up. I know I would.

Britney opened up the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards last night with a performance of her new single, "Gimme More".
It was awful.
At various times, she looked bored, confused or scared.The performance had no energy, and Brit appeared to be winded at certain times.If this was part of a plan to help kick off her comeback, it failed miserably. Brit has lost her fastball- she either needs another rehab start or two, or she may be done.

The song sucked.

Perhaps she is so sick of being in the spotlight that she is trying to sabotage her career (whether consciously or subconsciously.) A lot of people who despise the situation they are in will do that.

Last night's performance was truly painful to watch.

I only saw the performance today-I was too busy being nauseated at T.O. and Romo scoring loads of TD's (I was also wretching from Andy Reid's brilliance in allowing 2 boobs who have never and should never return punts AGAIN!) The Eagles handed Green Bay that game.
Anyway, I was surprised at how fit Britney looked-the ass is there, and larger and much better than that ghastly (though somehow arousing) picture from above. She looked coked up or high or something-defintely not there or wanting to be there.
And even though I hate her music, that song really acheived a new level of suck. It was very well produced though.
Then again, so is her rumpus.
She needs to leave Earth and visit MJ on Planet Zoltron.

btw....MTV has removed Britney's performance from replays of the award show. I TIVO'd 2 hrs of the show....no Britney.

Latest news is that a former bodyguard testified that he did see Britney do drugs and run around naked in front of her kids.

Plus more of her "advisors" have dropped her.

Perhaps Britney needs to have her children taken away from her for their own good, and for her to see what a mess she's made of things and straighten out her life.

Her Mother pushed her into show business at an early age. Thier relationship is strained from what I've heard, and her Mother has now turned her focus on her younger sister.

She's always been closer to her mother than her father--they even "wrote" a novel together called "A Mother's Gift"--but addiction tends to take a toll on families. Spears' parents divorced after her rise to stardom; some reports have claimed that her father has addiction issues as well. I would wager that Britney's recent estrangement from her mother more likely stems from her mother's attempts to provide intervention.

The management company that dropped Britney is known as The Firm. That is a pretty big deal. Another major blow to what was a music career.

Her management dropped her? I find that surprising. While I do question her talent level, I don't think her career is at all unsalvageable. Unless I'm missing something here, "bad press is way better then no press", especially in 21st century America. The American public still obviously cares........... I say that with some sarcasm about lowest common denominator & celebrity over substance, but it's also accurate
