I realize it was all flash, dazzle and p.r., but Britney seemed so...nice when she first came out. Always smiling, seemingly without a care in the world. Ahhh, those were the days! Once she married K-Fed, the bloom was off the rose - so to speak - for me.

The first clue she was derailing was when she married that guy and then divorced him in about 24 hours in Vegas one year.

This was all over our 11 PM news tonight... enough is enough!

LOS ANGELES - Police were called to the residence of Britney Spears late Thursday in a custodial dispute involving her children, a police spokesman said.

Around 8 p.m. police were called to Spears' Los Angeles residence, said Officer Jason Lee.

The call involved a "family custodial dispute that we are trying to resolve ... peacefully by court order," Lee said, declining to elaborate.

An Associated Press photographer outside the gates of the residence saw six police cars, an ambulance and a fire truck enter around 10:30 p.m. A dispatcher with the fire department referred calls to the police department.

Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline, 29, have been wrangling over custody of their sons, 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James.

Federline has temporary custody of the children because Spears, who has limited visitation rights, has defied court orders. The two were married in October 2004 and divorced in July.

Calls to attorneys for Federline and Spears were not immediately returned.

Earlier Thursday, Spears finally appeared for a deposition involving the custody battle, Federline's lawyer said. But Spears was deposed for just 14 minutes, attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan told reporters after the 26-year-old singer left.

Paparazzi sprinted after Spears, who was wearing a hot pink dress and sunglasses, as she drove away from the Century City office tower in a white Mercedes-Benz. Security guards dashed across the driveway to keep photographers on the sidewalk.

Spears called in sick for a Dec. 12 court-ordered deposition, but was photographed that day driving with a friend. She also didn’t show up for a session Wednesday, Kaplan said.

Spears’ attorneys from the firm Trope and Trope filed a court motion Wednesday asking to be relieved due to a “breakdown” in communication with their client.

Kaplan said Spears’ attorneys were present for Thursday's abbreviated deposition. “The deposition proceeding did go forward today. It was scheduled for 9:45 to 11:45,” Kaplan said. “However, it wasn’t able to commence until 11:32.”

“You can imagine in 14 minutes there’s not a lot of time to develop questions,” he said.
Kaplan said another deposition will be scheduled.

Even though I've stated numerous times that I can't stand the kind of corporate manufactured "music" she participates in, I hate the "paparazzi" much more. I wish they'd leave her alone. This is a human being who obviously needs a lot of help.

At this point, I think she goes out to find the paparazzi, because she has such an empty existence.

She must have read that Lindsay Lohan had been seen in Italy with a bottle of champagne.

You know...ever since DanO moved closer to the left coast and given Britney and Federline's penchant for Vegas on top of that, Britney has gone to hell in a handbasket. Coincidence?

This is very sad. I wonder why none of her family or friends tried to help her sooner before this. Guess they enjoyed the money she was making as a singer a lot more.

They did try and help her. She spent a month in treatment last March, but apparently Britney wasn't yet ready to get better--she met a guy in treatment, and when they both got out of treatment...together they both wound up right back where they started.

Britney didn't invent this behavior by any means. Plenty of people have self-destructed through drugs and alcohol just as Britney has (and is), only not in such a public manner. Her addiction has progressed fairly quickly--there's really nothing to speculate about here, all of her behavior is straight out of the textbook, right down to losing any and all contact with her children. The only real question in all of this is--will this be the wakeup call for her to finally seek some help? Because nobody--neither her friends nor her family--can make that decision for her, and she must make the decision for herself, not to please anybody else.

What I don't understand is why people find this so entertaining.

She's lost custody rights altogether now, at least until Jan 14th when another hearing will take place.

Maybe rather than viewing it as "entertaining," it should be seen as "educational." ANYONE, no matter how rich or poor can experience mental and emotional problems of this magnitude. In that regard, I see all the media coverage as a good thing - hopefully people will see that a celebrity should NOT be seen as a role model, particularly since their image is often a fictional one created by managers and promoters!

And while she is responsible for her own actions and needs to come to the realization that she is on a self-destructive path, support from people who really love you goes a long way toward helping you see what you are doing. I'm sure there are so many people riding the gravy train that Britney is nothing more than a dollar sign to most of them.

I feel the utmost sympathy for her and hope that she will see the light before it's too late. A deep-seated problem like this can't be solved with a weekend in rehab.

Britney Spears released from hospital

Britney Spears was reportedly released today (January 5) from the hospital where she was being held for psychological evaluation.

The pop star was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following a highly publicised melt-down Thursday night (January 3), refusing to turn over her son to ex-husband Kevin Federline's bodyguard.

Daytime talkshow host "Dr. Phil" McGraw, who met with Spears and her family at the hospital this morning, said in a press release that he is "convinced more than ever that she is in dire need of both medical and psychological intervention."

Meanwhile, Spears' visitation rights with her two sons were suspended yesterday (January 4) following an emergency court hearing, as previously reported.

i was telling my wife just last night that i fear the worst for ms. spears. it has definitely gone beyong being funny to becoming a very serious mental and emotional problem.

if she doesn't get some help soon, who knows what will happen?

One look at that photo of Britney, and anyone can tell this is a person who's confused, disoriented, and really in trouble.
I hope this time she gets all the help she needs. and her children are well looked after.
