The first part of that statement is a bit misleading -- Pigeonhed was not a Smith album per se but a collaborative project with producer/musician Steve Fisk.

Forum readers might recognize the re-worked version of "Battle Flag" that was produced with Lo-Fidelity Allstars.

FWIW, Seattle's KEXP is reporting that Smith died from complications due to diabetes.

For anyone so inclined, there are a wealth of solo recordings available for streaming/purchase via Bandcamp.

I realize the shear number of releases could be overwhelming for the uninitiated... his 1999 solo debut Let It All Begin is a fine starting point.
