love spectrum, makes me wish for time-warner.

took cinemax off of the silver tier this weekend and told no one. if you want it it's now $15 a month extra.

raised my bill $20, you rad that correctly $20. a 11% increase.

also took epix and cinemax off of the gold tier. $10 each per month if you want to pay an extra $20 for gold and then add those 2 back on when a day a go they came with it.

i fucking hate them.

I had to go with Spectrum because I was laid off from AT&T and lost my discount for the fiber internet and TV.

See above thread. Sounds like some gold package customers can still receive Cinemax free for the next year if you call and complain.

I have the gold package and couldn't even tell you the breakdown between how much I watch HBO versus Showtime versus Cinemax versus Starz versus Epix. I gave up on 100% of the original programming on those channels after the end of Boardwalk Empire, which was about the only original programming that I thought was fairly good from start to finish. I'm pretty much a 100% movie watcher on those channels, and to be honest, I probably watch four times as many movies on TCM as I do on all those "premiums" combined. If they ever got rid of TCM, I might just stop watching TV completely.

yeah apparently if you go YouTube TV and a Firestick with just an internet connection for wi-fi, you can do pretty good. YouTube TV is $40 bucks a month.

Well, to stream you need internet.

i thought that.

my buddy tried the piece-meal route, firestick: roku: you tube: hulu: amazon:etc......by the time he got internet and a land line he was spending just about as much as he was through spectrum.

spectrum knows they have the best thing going, and they know they are a legal monopoly and there is nothing anyone can do.

and every single person i talk to about dish or direct TV says the exact same thing: "its great for a year, then the proms go away and its more than cable ever was,"

it's what joe pesci said, "they fuck you at the drive-thru".

You will need Spectrum to provide the internet and a landline phone connection but you can cut out the TV and use streaming services for television/ movies like YouTube TV via a Firestick. Then just signup for the premium channels you desire like HBO. Also many people use an indoor antenna for the local channels if you are not too far away from a big city (that's still free).

Kill the TV plan, keep the internet plan, sign up for YouTube TV. Still Spectrum, but less nickel and diming. YouTube TV is pretty much cable, only portable. "Cutting the cord" is not a literal expression, nor does it mean what it did a few years ago, sadly. :)

Oh, and remind me to do this too! I have Spectrum and the basic TV package (only local channels and maybe WGN IIRC) and keep meaning to dump it altogether to sign up for YouTube TV at only a little more cost and a vast number of channels by comparison.

My problem is that antennas don't work in Manhattan, and I still want some of the local channels. Particularly the cable-only 24 hour news channel NY1, which I watch all morning every day (at night it's mostly MSNBC). NY1 is owned by Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) and at least in NYC you can't get it without Spectrum.

What I'm really pissed off about now is that I will soon not be able to use the independent ISP I've been using for internet for over 20 years, Bway.net, because my building just got wired for Fios and Verizon informed me they will be cutting off copper wire service (so no more traditional land lines and no more DSL internet). Bway provides DSL service over Verizon's copper wires (Verizon has to allow it by law), but cannot do so over Verizon Fios (apparently Verizon is not required by law to give other companies use of the lines, unlike copper.) So much for the breaking up of the Ma Bell monopoly.....

At least FiOS is fiber and your internet speed should be much, much faster than DSL

we got switched over to all digital by spectrum last january. you used to be able to plug a co-ax into a second or third TV and watch the lower tier channels (locals. etc) without any problems whatsoever and for no additional charge. not any more. all digital meant a digital box for every TV...at $8 per box, per month, so a TV in the bedroom = $8, a TV in the basement = $8 add $16 to every bill x 12 = $192 a year for what used to be free.

i fucking hate spectrum, hate them. actually i hate all legal monopolies, i get why they exist, but that still doesn't stop me form hating them.
