Hussongs Cantina in Ensenada. Had to sneak back in to get my boombox!
Father’s Day happens to coincide with the one year anniversary of Jim’s passing. We are heading up to the Island for the weekend and will be going to the cemetery on Sunday. Me and my brother Mick always talk to our departed loved ones when we go visit. I gotta tell him about the Yankees and Holzhauer from Jeopardy. I’ll happily read any messages to him from any of you who feel the need. I know its a little spooky but it does make me feel better. Hopefully he is still in peoples hearts and minds one year later. I miss him so.

I'd like you to mention that on June 20 my wife, Joanne, and I will be flying from Vegas to Anaheim to see Jeff Lynne's ELO. We're going because Jim wanted us to fly to NY to see them with him but we weren't able to do it. I have a feeling he'll be around the Honda Center that night, but maybe give him a reminder
I've posted this before but just as a reminder - I was thinking of Jim and ELO months ago and decided to buy the tix and rent a hotel room in honor of him. It all cost $800. That night we went to a casino and I hit a wheel for - you guessed it - $800. Thanks Jimbo!

Tell Jimbo I miss the daily Odd Couple and SCTV asides we would throw at each other. And Sandy Becker, and Paul Winchell, and all the other childhood things we used to talk about.

Much love to Jimbo. We miss you everyday. Been thinking about playing him in online Rock & Roll Jeopardy and how he’d rope-a-dope me, letting me think I had a chance early, and then wipe the floor with me. Great times, including three-way chats with Renny and visiting J&R with Jimbo and JohnG.

Thanks to all of you for caring so deeply about Jimmy. It was very tough when I was there on Sunday. It’s the first time I drove myself, with my wife and kids, to the cemetery. It struck me all at once that I was diving to a cemetery to see my brother and best friend. Of course I knew this but seeing the grounds as I drove up just triggered all the emotion. There was a lot more crying by me than I anticipated. It hurts just as much a year later as ever.

Found Jim’s college ID from SUNY Albany, or what’s left of it, in his wallet when I was back on the Island. From his freshman year. This is what he looked like when me and him were going to all those early classic rock concerts. What a hippie!

Jimmy was the brains behind all of our concert choices in the mid to late ‘70s. He would scour the “Arts And Leisure” section of the Sunday NY Times every week to see who was coming. Then he would have a negotiating session with my Mom and come back to me with an update which would go something like this: “Mom is getting us tickets to see Jethro Tull At The Garden.”
Now having my mother get the tickets was the key to the operation, especially when the target was a concert at MSG. She worked in Manhattan and would walk right past the Garden as she emerged from Penn Station each morning. Now this was the seventies so when the line of teenage freaks so her coming they would all agree, “Let the old lady go first!” Also tickets were rarely, if ever, more than $10 so she didn’t mind covering it for us in lieu of our $7 a week each allowance.
It was really just racketeering by teenagers but she didn’t mind, in fact she kind of enjoyed it.
