Hussongs Cantina in Ensenada. Had to sneak back in to get my boombox!
Sounds like a great day with huge fun for all. Nice size group too. Me and Mike got the frame up for the first shelf which is against the back wall and will be the anchor for the whole thing moving forward. I put one box up there to see what that many looked like. It’s holding up like a champ! May not look fancy but I can see the plan to get all of them out of boxes and onto shelves is definitely doable. It’ll be solid as a rock.
But how can I survive this journey when I am, at times, spontaneously subjected to horrific sound and images like this?
Somebody talk me down, quick!

Jimbo Memorial Lunch at Armageddon Shop in Cambridge: This was a weird death metal shop we wandered into with Jimbo a few years back. On the plus side, it's nice to know that the band Death Fetus is still making LPs (I'm not joking here).
Jimbo Memorial Lunch at The Border Cafe yesterday:
Such a great weather day and the food was great and it was very cathartic to share our stories, have some laughs and remember our great friend Jimbo. Still hard to believe he's gone, but I hope we continue this tradition every year and that we can get Smiff to come to the next one.

My next random grab for truck listening. Been a long time since I’ve caught up on Aldo Nova. Spinning The Hives disc right now. Already loved them. Saw the Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes tour at Jones Beach. Awesome! Who’s Billie Jo Spears?

Not fancy is fine. The collection itself is the showpiece rather than the shelving.

That Aldo Nova album is so good. Did some CD sorting myself prepping to move things into new cabinets (additional cabs, not replacements).

Here’s the basic design I plan to repeat to finish this unit and all the ones to follow.
Very nice! I've wanted to do something similar for years, but my wife is wary. Maybe you could post a picture when it's complete so I can show her how awesome it will look?

When you finish, soak them with a couple of coats of Tung Oil. The Tung Oil soaks in and hardens the wood. Since it's soaked into the wood, it doesn't sit on the top very much, so it doesn't cloud over time when someone slides the jewel boxes on and off from the shelf. There are other ways to do this and perhaps my method isn't the be all, end all, but it's worked for me on the shelving units that I've built over the years.

Thank you guys for the help and feedback! I will definitely post progress photos along the way. Sometimes it’s hard to judge on your own if things look good or you’re just crazy.

Alright, alright. Aldo Nova is today's forum blurb.
Actually Alan, the Aldo Nova album is pure guitar-driven rock n roll happiness. Almost reminds me of Triumph with his high register voice and shredding leads. Best album of this bunch so far. Hey Linda, I’m glad we caught up with Aldo Nova.

I hadn't made the Triumph connection before, but I definitely see it.
This was meant to be - I listened to that album twice the day after I posted that, then caught Aldo Nova twice on XM the same day.

Aldo Nova always reminds me of a camping trip I once took (before I knew Jimbo) and when we arrived around Midnight in complete darkness I cranked up the tunes (always had my mega boombox) and the first song played was Fantasy which woke up the entire campground. Man were people pissed! ha-ha l!

Turns out that Billie Joe Spears was a consistent Country Top 20 presence in the 60’s and early 70’s. As her success waned here in the US, it grew in the UK. In the 90’s the English magazine “Country Music People” dubbed her “ The Queen Mother Of country music”.
Pleasant rendering of covers of big country hits, but give me Tammy Wynette or Loretta Lynn any day.
