Hussongs Cantina in Ensenada. Had to sneak back in to get my boombox!
This is the kids on the way in to see the revival of “Cats”. Uncle Jimmy bought the whole family tickets for Christmas. (I’m sure it was over $800) The kids still love that show. Emma still thinks of herself as a cat.
Guess which one is Jimmy.
They’re kinda happy!

My favorite ever post from Jimmy! His usual dry delivery. God, he was funny.
(Wouldn’t let me quote out of a thread with such a long term of inactivity, so I copied and pasted)

Whenever I would say something like:
"I already own this -- why would I need to buy this album again?
JImbo's response would be:
"What? Why would you say something like that?"
Jimbo was always fun to CD shop with for that and many other reasons.
Looking forward to the Jimbo Lunch on Aug 24th in his honor.
Another reason Jimbo was beloved here (along with his wit) was back when we had new members, he would greet them and encourage them to post often with the words “ come on in, the water is fine”. He was our unofficial greeter and Master Of Ceremonies. Like I said, he loved water.

Exactly right, John. Many of us are here in very large part because Jimbo encouraged us to stay and participate actively and treated us as not just fellow collectors but as friends from day one, a stark contrast to the complete disregard for newcomers on display at many other boards at the time.
yep and not only was Jimbo friendly on the board but would meet n greet people who came to NYC for pleasure many times by taking them around the city (and participating in an actual Jimbo Lunch).

Quite true. A very memorable day for me, to be sure! So glad I got to visit J&R, Discorama and Jamal’s with Jimbo. It was an experience never to be forgotten.

In early ‘91 I moved into a house with a pool in Huntington Beach, CA with Bob, a drummer friend of mine from Chicago. A three bedroom rental a half mile from the beach. The other roommate was Rebecca, my wife for the last 28 wonderful years. That’s how we met..
At Thanksgiving that year I decided it was time to take her to NY to meet the family as things had gotten more serious. Jim was, of course, very excited and told us he got the three of us tickets for a really fun “off Broadway” show. He wouldn’t tell me what it was but said “It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before”. After we had been home for a few days Jim announced that the show was a matinee for that afternoon.
We get to the Astor Place Theatre way downtown and he tells us about this new extremely quirky show with a twist audience participation ending. Show starts with three bald headed blue men with no ears playing PVC tube percussion/music. If I recall there was unusual artistic painting with paint filled balloons maybe? Then at the end you spun toilet paper rolls above your head till the whole theatre was knee deep in toilet paper. I wonder if that made an impression on Rebecca on her first ever trip to NYC. She immediately thought Jimmy was the coolest guy on the planet. He said he needed to break her into the city the right way!
The Blue Man Group is now a $100 million dollar a year enterprise. Jim was into it from the very beginning like every other cool thing conceived of in the human mind.

The Rolling Stones are hitting the stage about now in NJ at MetLife Stadium and I can’t help thinking Jimbo would have been there tonight as he was forever waiting for them to return to the metro area. I can just see Mick prancing across the large stage and Keith holding court on the right.

Right now listening to that “Stranglers” disc. Just plain awesome.
Jimbo is one of the few people I know who also owned that Rough Trade disc.
I can see Jim now, dancing to it pointing his fingers in every direction.
For me, I liked half of this “best of” album a lot. The rest sounded ok, but wasn’t as inspired. It seemed like they were trying too hard to recapture that ‘80s sound. It got a little tedious for me. But I’ll play that first half again.

Found these in an old box of stuff from my LA years. Connection to Jimmy is the stub from the “MET”. I was home from LA for a visit between terms at school and Jim got us these tickets. It was for Robin Williams live. It was hysterical. I had forgotten about this show till I found the stub. Btw.....JGB two nights in a row at the Wiltern in LA? Now that is cool!

Thinking about it for an hour or two to search the fuzzy memory banks for a snippet from the Robin Williams show at the MET. I got one.
He walks on stage, crowd goes crazy, and he yells “HOW-DEE!” Then deadpans, “Oh.....wrong opera house.” Stuck with me for 33 years almost to the day.
If I asked Jim about the show he would’ve recited joke after joke working himself into a laugh frenzy!

I was looking at Jimmy’s concert ticket stubs from his college years. Worth enlarging to peruse them. Here are some highlights.
Springsteen twice at his college (SUNY Albany) The Who from 1971 at Forrest Hills tennis stadium And I can pretty much guarantee that the Rocky Horror ticket is from the Waverly when it came out
