With the NFL season over, it's time for a new thread, so let's rock and roll gentleman and ladies...
NJ Advance Media's Darryl Slater believes there is a "75 percent" chance the Jets release Darrelle Revis.
Slater allows for the possibility Revis "takes a pay cut and moves to free safety or No. 2 corner," but ESPN's Rich Cimini has reported it would take a significant pay cut for Revis to remain with the team.
The Jets would save $9.3 million against the cap by releasing Revis, and that number could grow based on offset language in his contract.

The Washington Post reports the Redskins have yet to make progress in long-term talks with free agent Kirk Cousins.
That's via "people familiar with the situation." Per reporter Mike Jones, the Redskins are also likely to use the non-exclusive franchise tag on Cousins, allowing him to negotiate with other teams. Cousins has been strongly linked to ex-Redskins OC Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco, but the bombed-out Niners would have to surrender two first-round picks.

My guess is that all parties are waiting to see what the market will look like this offseason. Obviously both sides have a figure they'd sign for immediately but I think they'll end up having to meet halfway to some degree, which I think the market will determine for them.
The flip side to the Cousins deal is the perspective of the coaches and GMs. Even if you think a team should pass on Cousins and think longterm cost, the coaches and GMs realize that if the team does poorly next season, they could be fired and won't be around for any longterm team building. We've seen Dan Snyder is a fickle moron -- imagine the Redskins let Cousins go, the team goes 4-12 and Cousins does pretty well for Kyle Shanahan or whoever. Gruden and McCloughan could very well be out on their ass.
That’s why the Texans signed Osweiler — the GM and coach felt they were on the hotseat and figured he was worth a gamble, especially if they were going to be fired if the Texans stunk last season. If they didn't make and win one playoff game, I bet they would have been released, even though Osweiler ended up being a huge mistake.
The Niners just fired Chip Kelly after one season — seriously, what did they think he was going to do in one season with that roster and organization? They had to know they were in a rebuild before hiring him but then fired him anyway, before he really got to build his team up. You could say his track record in Philly doomed him but the Niners were well aware of that before hiring him. It doesn't make sense.
Unless they work for a stable organization like the Steelers, Bengals or Colts, coaches know they need to hurry up and win no matter what the state of the roster is.

Kirk Cousins = a "people familiar with the situation." If you could get Cousins at 2 for 45, i'd probably sign him. The damn franchise tag is $21 million anyway; so you pay a premium, get a second year, and have time to figure out what you're going to do at QB. Everything I'm reading about says this QB class is very high risk, so buy yourself some job insurance.
Yeah, he's just way too expensive if he's not a true shutdown corner anymore.
I think a good policy to have is: "If the Patriots don't think a player's worth having, don't pay top line dollars for that player. Chances are, you missed something" In Revis's case, it's that he got old.

For Cousins, the tag goes up to around $25 million and then next season, it goes up to an insane $35 million. It's not just about the risk in the new QB class, it's if the staff feels like starting all over at the position. Cousins has improved year-over-year in Gruden's system, so his ceiling is still in question.
This article goes through so many good reasons why the Redskins need to keep Cousins but was eye-opening was these charts comparing him to other top tier QBs, one through their age 28 seasons and one to their first two years as a starter. Pretty amazing.

WBRC FOX6 reports free agent Trent Richardson was arrested for domestic violence Thursday night in Hoover, Alabama.
A female victim was treated for scratches and bruises. The incident reportedly began at a Wal-Mart and continued until police were called to a Hyatt hotel, where Richardson was taken into custody.
He's been charged with third-degree domestic violence and will appear before a judge on Friday. Richardson is being held on $1,000 bond. The former third overall pick hasn't played an NFL snap since 2014.

Speaking of excrement, here's a humanitarian that Belichick thought deserved a Super Bowl ring for doing nothing, unless you count being blind drunk and possibly killing innocent people...
Impending free agent Michael Floyd pled guilty to one count of extreme DUI Thursday in Scottsdale City Court.
The other six counts were dismissed. Floyd will serve a 120-day jail sentence, including 24 days in county jail and 96 days of home detention.
He also must complete 30 hours of community service and pay a $5,115.99 fine. It's not a worst case scenario for Floyd, but it's pretty close. There was no way he was going to avoid jail time after blowing a .217. Coming off a down year, Floyd's free agent prospects aren't looking good.

And, word is Cousins wants to bail on Washington...
ESPN's Jason Reid reports "former Redskins officials who know Kirk Cousins" have said Cousins doesn't want to be in Washington and would prefer to be franchise-tagged rather than sign a long-term deal.
The sides have made what sounds like zero progress on a long-term deal, and Cousins may be fed up with the way Washington handled negotiations the past two years.
The front office clearly didn't believe in Cousins last year, making him prove himself again on a one-year tag, and Cousins answered the bell with a big season.
It's fair to wonder if the "former Redskins officials" Reid is referring to is someone from the old Shanahan regime, as then-OC Kyle Shanahan literally "stood on a table" for Cousins when they drafted him.
Now the head coach in quarterback-less San Francisco, Shanahan remains enamored with Cousins, who has made it known the feeling is mutual. If Cousins is able to force his way out of D.C., a reunion in Santa Clara would be a good bet.

And, back to the human excrement file, and following up on Rick's post...
Darrelle Revis has been charged with four felonies for his role in a weekend fight in Pittsburgh.
That includes two counts of aggravated assault. Revis is accused of knocking two men unconscious.
It's a serious matter, likely not the kind that will disappear. It's also an ill-timed off-field issue for a 31-year-old corner coming off a lousy year.
Revis is guaranteed $6 million for 2017, but this greatly increases the chances he gets cut loose, which would create $9.3 million in cap space for the Jets.

I've never understood these players doing this kind of stoopid shit. They had it all, then blow it. Many of them make more than some of us will make in a lifetime. Then they do drugs, beat their wives, drive drunk when they can afford a cab.... then they get a deal with a team once their sentence is done.

I have harsher words that I can't say here.
Well, this is who they were all along.
Too many of them have no education and go to the pros and have no concept of behaving or maintain all that money properly.
Many of them also hang with their pals who are really just leeches from their past who bring them right down to their level.
It's sad, but there's no excuse for this sickening behavior.

As far as Revis goes, I don't believe he was walking around looking for a fight and these guys are also as guilty as hell but the police have to take their sides for now (as Revis left the scene and didn't speak up for himself). The police initially always over charge and once this gets to the DA and Revis's lawyers get involved, the charges 4 felonies will be greatly reduced.
But yes Revis's days with the Jets is most probably over and maybe in the NFL all together.

Football players get hit in the head a lot. It makes a difference. I'm not saying athletes in other sports are all squeaky-clean but none of them compare to the NFL when it comes to players doing stupid things.
The sense of entitlement that most of them have gotten from being treated like gods since the eighth grade doesn't help matters either.
