One of my ALL TIME favorite Yankees - author (Joe You Could Have Made Us So Proud)...ok he did time on Rikers...
I remember one rain delay in Boston - he had hit a homerun (maybe a grandslam) - the Yankees were up - WPIX was interviewing him during the delay - he was saying such things as the homerun wasn't as important as the Yankee win while knowing all the time he wanted the homerun. Of course the game was called.
After he retired he used to play on a professional softball team that would often visit Connecticut...of course I went to see him.
He used to come to many of the old timers games - haven't seen him much. I hope he is ok.
I actually work with someone in Engineering who claims to be his cousin.
Still have his rookie card someplace.

I am with you on this Robert. Joe was always one of my favorite Yankees. Remember when Phil Rizzuto would tease Joe about his hair? God, those years are such cherished memories.

Pepitone was one of a kind. Never saw him without the rug on.

Glad they brought him up today. Fond memories.

Last I knew he was living in Massapequa (my town) and I used to see him often getting coffee at the local 7-11. In fact one day I got a 911 call to his house that was located along a canal in south Massapequa, his Yankee golf clubs had been stolen from his SUV. They obviously had great sentimental value. Nice guy, big hands.

I got Joe's autograph at a Yankee Fanfest back in the mid-90s. He seemed really out of it at the time. I hope he's doing better these days.

Joe lived in our building in Brooklyn when we lived there. For that reason alone, he was my favorite Yankee.

He still lives in Massapequa. My wife has worked part time in a store in Massapequa for many years where he is a regular customer. He always stops to talk to her whenever he’s there. She says he’s a very nice guy.

I had no idea he lived here. I'll keep an eye out for him. Bouton had some great Pepitone stories which he relayed in Ball Four.
He was the first male I heard of that used a hair dryer.

The first time I met him was at the long closed Sam Goody's that was inside the Sunrise Mall Massapequa, he was looking for Christmas gifts. But years later he would stop into the 7-11 on Merrick Rd in the afternoon and we would talk as we made our coffees. He lived around the corner. Just another guy.
