Tonight it was the return of Brand X to NYC's Iridium and its like seeing old friends and the company at the table was very nice too. Hung out with a nice bunch of chaps, one who came up from Philly. Band is just amazing live. John Goodall had a few tech problems with his guitar but it all worked out.
And I love these small clubs. I walk up in the rain at 7PM with a line of people waiting....Girl asks me if I would sit at the bar, said sure, she escorts me in pass all the people waiting in the rain and I go downstairs and see the woman who runs the place. Said I hear there is a space at the bar, she says you can sit anywhere you like. I say how about over there by stage and she says sure. I'm surprised I don't get jumped in the bathroom by the people who waited out in the rain while I just waltz in and sit in a prime spot.

My first "event" of the year will be an interview with Steve Jones at the Grammy Museum next Tuesday, but my first concert will be Midge Ure at the Roxy next Friday.

Found out today that I will be working my 4th straight summer Billy Joel show as he will be playing at Citizens Bank park when the Phillies are on the road September 9.
We are supposedly getting Coldplay and U2 among others, but no official word yet.

Wow, nothing touches L.A. clubs for the acts they can bring in. Excellent solo and Ultravox material to draw from. Enjoy Dean!

He played here last year, and my wife decided not to go because it was a stadium show. Found out he played a couple rarities. If he returns this year, and if she's recovered enough, I may push the issue. And I hate stadium shows.

Let me know when tickets go on sale for Billy in Philly. 9/9 is a Saturday night and it might be a fun ride south for the day.
Here's the info John (sounds like this is going to be a very special night!):
Billy Joel playing a summer show at Citizens Bank Park is becoming somewhat of a tradition. He'll play the home of the Phillies for the fourth consecutive year on Saturday, Sept. 9. Joel is the first artist to hold such a residency. Each of his previous three residencies has sold out.
That's not all: Philadelphia will go all out to honor the Long Island-raised Piano Man. To mark Joel's performance, the Phillies will raise a banner at CBP in honor of Joel's record, making him the first musician who will be commemorated like a player by the organization.
Tickets will be available at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, via Ticketmaster.com or by-phone at 800-745-3000.

Midge Ure played in a small club one mile from my home over the Summer but I couldn't make that one.
Looking forward to April 29th and the Long Ryder's/ Translator show at The Roxy.
I wonder do you need to get there early for a good spot/ table?
I would unless there are reservations available. The place will be packed, guarantee that. Dean will know, he's frequents the club.
Rick A.
For the most part, the tables in the back are reserved for "VIP". However, that is not the case for all shows. But I am usually a floor/close to the stage guy, and being 5'9", will get there fairly early to secure a good spot. It is a small club, and if you're taller you should be OK.
And dang Rick, wish you were joining us. Will definitely toast to you.

I know man, I know. Geez, April 29th is a Saturday, isn't it? Man, a fly out on a Friday, rock on Saturday jet back on a Sunday. If I can score a cheap ticket, I thinking, I'm thinking...

Maybe the 1st musician to be commemorated by the Phillies, but not the 1st in Philadelphia. In October 1994 (10/7/94), the Spectrum unveiled a tie-dyed banner for the Grateful Dead right before their 50th concert there.
(I saw 34 of their 53 Spectrum GD shows......everyone beginning with 1985).

I'll see if I can swing it! Probably get a hotel room too.
