Struggling to think of something... he loves rock music, especially stuff from guitar gods. Like both old and modern acts... favorites include Hendrix, Zeppelin, Jeff Beck, Joe Satriani, blues, etc.

I'm looking for a cool book or album that's come out in the past year or so, so I can be sure he hasn't gotten it a while ago... a really cool "history of guitar rock" type book would be cool... or a live album or Blu-Ray would be great.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

The Who's "Tommy Live At Royal Albert Hall" Blu-Ray is very good.

There's an updated version of Satch's book out in paperback now.

If he's a fan of ELO and Jeff Lynne, this great concert Blu-ray/ DVD/ CD comes out next week.

In addition to seconding the recommendation of Pete's "Unstrung Heroes",
I will add this brand new and fantastic album-by-album Led Zep book:

It's funny peeps mentioned my book, but if he's a guitar fan, it would be right up his alley and perfectly describes what you're looking for.

I avoided common names though.

The Terry Kath documentary comes to DVD in December and that would be cool for him.

Any of the G3 videos as well.
