#10 is Steve Hackett and #9 is Steven Wilson. I agree with the list, many of them do appear on the yearly Cruise To The Edge.

I also don't think Wilson is that great of a guitarist. He's a great singer, songwriter, arranger & audio engineer; but from what I've seen only a competent guitarist, no more.

The funny thing is Wilson talked guitars and playing last night and admitted he is a sloppy guitarist that doesn’t know all the names of the chords he plays. And everyone steals from Page and Led Zep. Also guitar playing should be sexy with the guitar hung low unlike some of the guy's you see on YouTube playing the guitar way up high.

After seeing Rothery twice in concert in recent years I don’t feel he is a“great” one in a modern sense but has a great tone to his playing that reminds me of Gilmour. He is not fast but gets the most out of every note. Can't really compare a player like him to a John Petrucci.

A lot of these younger guitar players are something else like the guy from Haken. The new Prog is a different animal from the traditional 70s prog.

To me, though it's technically fairly simple (I learned it note for note so it couldn't be too challenging!) I think the most perfect rock guitar solo ever as far as fitting the song is Rothery on the album version of Kayleigh.

A sense of melody in solos is at least as important to me as technical flash; possibly because my weak point as a soloist/improviser was melody. My strongest point was emotion.

Yep that's what Rothery is strong with, great melodic playing.

I always hung it low through my 20’s but age has a lot to do with it. Get a little arthritic degeneration in the neck, back and shoulders, like me, and it’s less painful to have it higher up.
