Another mediocre RS list.

I own 26 of the 100; & I wouldn't rate more than half of those 26 as great.

It's a typical Rolling Stone list in that the ommissions are more perplexing than the choices. They (Jann Wenner) rarely demonstrate much depth to their musical knowledge.

I own 40 of them and have listened to all or parts of the vast majority of the rest. I would call most of it pretty great. There are some that should be on the list that are not (The Smiths The Queen is Dead seems to be missing unless I overlooked it, and that's simply criminal; to me it's one of the top albums of the 20th century, let alone the 80s).

The other being Never Mind The Bollocks?

Life changing, but not quite that high on the list. :) I went back and edited because I couldn't actually think of an album to put higher! Maybe NIN Pretty Hate Machine or The Stones Let it Bleed (I'm not a Beatles guy, in case anyone wondered.)

Many ranked way too high, some way to low. GnR Appetite not Top 10? Not even Top 20? Sun City is on the list? When was the last time you played that? Obviously in the 80s.

And if Jimbo isn't 100 for 100 I will be shocked.

I own all but:
93) Luther Vandross 'The Night I Fell in Love'
58) Various Artists, 'The Indestructible Beat of Soweto' (I am now on the look out for this one)
36) Anita Baker, 'Rapture'

And I like Sun City! There are others I would drop off the list before that.

I didn't keep count, but I'd guess I own more than half. It was a nice reminder that there was some pretty great music in the 80s.

(wish Stealing Fire was in there though).

Well, at least 99. I know I had The Indestructible Beat of Soweto on vinyl, but sold it off with most of my LPs after superstorm Sandy.

Not enough synthpop. Only one New Order album?

I don't have my collection sorted by year, or I'd probably list 250+ I prefer over what RS picked.

I was thinking it was missing Depeche Mode but their biggest album Violator came out in March 1990. No The Cure I see.

I basically agree with their Top Ten but Tracy Chapman at 10 is way over rated. Synchronicity at 17? What?

I like the Chapman, but I agree 10 has got to be too high.

I keep thinking most of my favorites probably aren't on the list at all.

At least they caught the Suzanne Vega debut.

No 80's Marillion with Fish?????

No those albums didn't sell in the US. Maybe if this was a British chart.

Which reminds me, no Genesis?

There's a dearth of anything heavier than Springsteen on the list.
