YourMusic.com Raising Subscription Price to $6.99

I just received an email from YourMusic.com stating their monthly subscription rate for CDs will be increasing from $5.99 to $6.99 per CD.
(Starting January 1, 2007.)

This means the rates will change for 2CD sets and boxsets too as they typically charge $5.99 per disc.

They did NOT give a reason for the price increase.

And all the CDs in our queues will all be affected by the price hike too.
So, I have to either buy them now before Jan. 1, or endure the rate increase.

I highly doubt I will continue with YourMusic.

On top of that, I'm currently having problems with YourMusic delivering my monthly queue selections on time.
I still have NOT received my monthly selection for October 2006, and it is over six weeks late.
Repeated emails to YourMusic.com have generated little or no response from them. I'm still waiting for them to resolve this issue.
My monthly queue selection for November 2006 was ordered back on 11/21, and I still have not received this CD either.
So at this point, I've paid almost $13 to them, and they still owe me TWO CDs.

Anyone else having any problems with YourMusic delivery...?

I would recommend making your purchases NOW before the price increase, which goes into effect January 1, 2007.

I'll look around for some items, wait for my late deliveries, and by the end of the month, I will cancel out of this.
I could always rejoin later if there was some compelling reason to do so but... for me personally, they have become a pain.
I was hoping for an email response from them today on my lost or late CDs... instead I get notice of a rate hike.

Thanks for the tip. When I joined it was $4.99 per disc.

I suggest using the regular bmg club instead. If i wait for the biggest sales, the price will occaiosanlly dip below $5.99 incl s/h & I don't have to pay them until the cd's are received. It's the same company as ym, in fact i was part of a test grup for about 6 months where BMG offered some members all cd's at $5 per disc; while we weren't informed at the time, it ended up being a prelaunch test for ym. I bought a ton of discs in that 6 months! Only neg is that box sets only become affordable when the make a mistake & accidently include them in free shipping sales.

Has anyone else besides Steve received this e-mail saying that yourmusic.com prices are going up January 1, 2007? Could it be that they're phasing in the increase? Unless it got lost in my junk e-mail folder, I've not received this announcement.

That's a good question. I've only known about this from reading about it on-line. I'll have to see if they ever notified me they were raising prices. Maybe they are only doing that to those who don't buy more than one CD a month?

I didn't get the email, but I believe I saw something on their homepage (a really small link) - it was a "click here for important info" kind of thing. Cheesy.

BMG Club (same company) seems to also be raising their prices.

I decided to check out Yourmusic.com based on this thread and I just don't get it. The selection seems minimal. I looked for the new Who cd and they didn't have it listed. One cd by Graham Parker and Nick Lowe, and nothing by Sparks or Southside Johnny. While it is cheap, it doesn't seem like a big selection. Maybe I'm missing something.

It's basically the same selection as the BMG club. They only get certain releases and it usually takes a few months to get the new ones.

If it takes a few months to get the new ones, by then I'm sure you can find them used/promo before then and not pay the full price.

I agree. These sites are useless. They seem to be good for those who don't buy much or those who are out in the country without store access.

But on this note... some of The Beatles LP's and others from the 60's & 70's are worth more if they are from one of the record clubs. As they were more limited. Like Paul McCartney's Highlights LP. It was only available through Columbia House, in the states. Very tough find back in the day.

BMG club just added the Byrds box. I ASSUME Your Music will follow. At the moment, it's priced very high on BMG, but eventually there will be some sort of weird sale making it affordable.

I got the same note about the price hike. $6.99 (which includes shipping, but not tax) is still better than $8.99 or more I'd pay in the stores. It's a great way for me to fill in the holes in my collection, either with first-time CD purchases or remasters.

I've been in for nearly a year and have had only one shipment that came late (a few weeks) and that was between Thanksgiving and Christmas. The following shipment came right on time.

Hey Neal! Back in the day, we traded some stuff on the Lee Shore mailing list.

Welcome to ICE!

It looks like the price hike is selective. I ordered 4 CDs yesterday and was given the $5.99 price for each ($11.98 for a 2 CD set).

I never received my November CD.
I've sent 3 requests using their online help feature, since I haven't found a number to call.
The only response I got was verifying my address, but still no CD or further emails. :mad2:

How about this.

I put in a bigger order than usual in December to take advantage of the $5.99 price and the fact they had a few cds I wanted.

Today when checking my account because I hadn't recieved that 12/13/06 order for 6 cds, I find out that the order was cancelled and my money refunded via credit card.

I wonder why? Did they get too many orders before the deadline?

The weird thing is that this order had showed shipped during most of December.

For what it's worth, when I log on it still shows $5.99 and my order last night reflected that price.

No more, I'm afraid. I just signed in and the pages I can get to show $6.99. I'm amusing myself by imaging a bunch of workers running madly around the pages that say "Closed for Maintenance," putting new price tags on everything!

I sent them an email thru their system asking for an explanation on my order's cancellation. If they ever answer, I'll let everyone know.

BMG sent me an email with a $5.99 3 day free shipping offer that as i discovered included most box sets. I decided to take an extra day to decide if I could afford the $150 order that was sitting in my cart. The email had an exp date of today; unfortunately yesterday at 5 pm pst yesterday the site showed it as expired & wouldn't accept it.
