I would like to say that Harry Styles' performance, and material, on SNL was quite impressive.
My daughters always told me he was trapped in boy band hell, waiting to escape, that he idolized classic rockers like Bowie, and they seem to be correct.
Most boy band members just continue to make the same type of (in my opinion) crap after they go solo. That includes (once again - my opinion) Mr. Timberlake.
Props to Harry!

I'm old so I only DVR SNL these days and watch it Sunday morning. I thought Styles did a pretty good "1977 Mick Jagger" impression in the "Family Feud Time Travel" sketch, and I actually like a couple of One Direction songs. They are very well-crafted pop. But after sitting through a minute or so of each of his songs, I thought that the material was pretty weak, and his performance seemed...disinterested?- and I fast forwarded through them to the next segment. I am probably in the minority though, as I've seen other comments across the 'net by an older demographic which seemed to really appreciate him Saturday night.

Props to Harry! First off, Timberlake is awesome! As for Harry, I can barely endure SNL because aside from Weekend Update is the living definition of unfunny, but we caught the last 30 minutes and I was very impressed with the 2nd song that Stiles played. It was very open and dark and had some simple arrangements, but very good singing and it was a little rootsy. Good stuff. I will give anything a try and that song was worthy.

SNL has become a one-joke disaster. We usually watch the whole thing in 15 DVRed minutes, skip Weekend Update (again, the same joke throughout), and usually skip the musical performances, but the girls wanted to see Harry. Glad I watched!

Glad I watched! SNL is horrific. If not for the election (and I HATE political humor) they would have no material. How is it still considered prestigious to be on that show?

I stopped watching SNL a few years ago when I realized I was fast-forwarding my way through most of the show. The humor is crass, lazy and underdeveloped for the most part.
If a skit becomes noteworthy, I'll watch it on the internet, but SNL is no longer "must see TV" for me.

Though I always watch SNL. I do DVR it and FF usually the next day. Its hit or miss but they usually have 1 or 2 great skits like last nights Family Feud Celebrity Style.
I thought Harry was channeling Bowie or Ferry but obviously missed that high mark but he was ok. Did I ever tell you I met One Direction just as they were hitting it big at the local Sunrise Mall where they were appearing to crowds of crazy teens?! I'm amazed they and Harry lasted this long.

I see now that people online are bitching that he "ripped off" Badfinger.
His first song featured a guitar lick straight out of "Baby Blue"; we noticed it right off, but I took it more as a tip of the hat than a "rip-off".

Copping licks is nearly as old as rock & roll itself. A time-honored tradition. No big deal.
P.S. I have no One Direction CDs. I'm waiting for a greatest hits comp. And you all know I'm not kidding.
