I'm thinking I might've done this before, but what would be your faves under each letter of the alphabet?

What would see in your A-Z record store at home from just those 26 artists?

Not easy for me on many letters, but I'll try...

Asia
Black Sabbath
Chicago
Dire Straits
Echo & Bunnymen
Fleetwood Mac
Genesis
Heart
Iron Maiden
Jethro Tull
King Crimson
Led Zeppelin
Marillion
nine inch nails
Oasis
Pink Floyd
Queen
Rush
Steely Dan
Thin Lizzy
UFO
Van Halen
Tom Waits
X
Yes
Warren Zevon

I knew this would be diverse.

Pretty fascinating to see everyone's tastes.

If others participate, I'll add up how many artists got selected but I'm only counting one per letter!

Some tough calls on artists to leave off - some with one or two albums that are among my favorites (New England, John Entwistle, Planet P, etc.), some with more (Eagles, Triumph, Dethklok, Mike Keneally, etc.). And I have no one for X. V was especially tough, leaving off Steve Vai and Van Halen.

A special shout-out to John G for Yusuf Islam....very helpful and inventive as well!! I really didn't have an "I".

This really was a tough assignment....so many letters had great alternatives to my list.

You mean you're not going to compile to see which bands got selected the most under each letter? Slacker... :D

H - Helloween
I - Iron Maiden
J - Judas Priest
K - Kiss

Most difficult single choice was Blind Guardian versus Black Sabbath under B. although Ozzy versus the Offspring was also tough
Most difficult letter was H, as Hammerfall, or Halestorm. or Heart, or Horrorpops could have been chosen. Been a while since I thought about this, since I think Helix was under H the last time :-)

My favorite British Punk band is X-Ray Spex (yes, even over The Clash and the Pistols).

If X (the band) wasn't in my top 10 favorite groups, I would've chosen them.

If only they weren't a one album wonder, it might have been a closer contest for me, too, but X has just so much more great music.

It was tough for me to leave off Rainbow, The Who, ZZ Top, Deep Purple, The Cars, Ultravox, Uriah Heep, The Police, Kiss, Prince, etc but that's the fun of it.

Hell, I couldn't even pick the Rolling Stones because of Rush!

I'm doing first names for solo artists because it's easier for my brain (and my library sorts them that way!)

Arctic Monkeys
Bo Diddley
The Cure
David Bowie
Elvis Presley
Flogging Molly
Green Day
Howlin Wolf
Iggy Pop
Johnny Cash
KMFDM
Lightnin' Hopkins
Morrissey
Nine Inch Nails

The Smiths
Tom Waits
U2
Velvet Underground
White Stripes
X
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
ZZ Top I guess

Man, I had to leave off the Ramones, Madonna, New Order, REM, the Sex Pistols, AND Peter Murphy. It's tough being the also ran.
