The CU 24 is apparently $6850.

I'm holding out to see if there's an Experience next year. That's where I'm more likely to strike on something like this (well, not the Dragon).

Earlier this year, I took advantage of a sale to pick up a Holey Board pedalboard. I've used a G-System multi-effects thing for a long, long time - TC Electronics makes some great stuff. But I'd grown a bit antsy, and I've picked up a few pedals over the last couple years, beyond the dirt pedals I've needed because the G-System doesn't do any kind of distortion pedals. I haven't fully set up the pedalboard because I was in the middle of something and I knew I'd need a power supply. With the various pedals I've added to the G-System, I was pretty maxed out w/the power it supplied and the One-Spot power supply I had (it's a daisy chain thing, so not the best for a board).

Did some looking around, asked a few people for advice. Kind of fell in love with the Walrus Audio Canvas 15 - more than enough outlets to power my pedals, plus a USB-C port if I need it, and a few other things. But it was the most expensive of the ones I'd looked at. Tim Pierce recommended Voodoo Labs, but said the main thing was to make sure the power outlets were isolated, which almost all are these days. So that's what I decided to go with. Went to my local pusher last night before the Reb Beach show, told my guy what I was there for, and that I wanted to go w/the Voodoo Labs Voodoo 3. He pulled it out and we looked at it, discussed some of the stuff he liked about it, then he said, "You know what's really nice is this one..." - and pulls out the Canvas 15. The more we talked, the more I remembered why I liked it to begin with. So I asked what the price would be, hoping it wouldn't be the sticker price - and it wasn't. It actually came in below the Voodoo Labs sticker, so this came home with me.

Now I get to experience figuring out the sequencing I like best. I'm looking forward to this, though - it's going to take me in a somewhat different direction due to the nature of some of the pedals I've picked up.

I just ordered a new guitar, made by a Luthier in Western Australia named Dave Johnson.

It was actually an affordable hand-made guitar which kind of shocked me. This is his website...

These are some pics of the one I got...

The specs are...

Mahogany neck and body
Ebony fingerboard
25.5" scale length, stainless steel jumbo frets
Compound radius 10"-16" fretboard
Dual carbon-fiber rod neck reinforcement
Paua shell and pearl inlay and side dots
43mm wide at nut, bolt-on neck
Two-way adjustable truss rod, 3mm
Gotoh 2-point floating bridge
CTS pots, Switchcraft jack and selector switch
Thin "D" profile neck
Pickups - DiMarzio PAF 36th anniversary (set)
Gotoh tuning machines
Bone nut
Master volume/Master tone, 3-way selector switch
Gloss 2-pk polyurethane finish

(Paua is apparently a species of Abalone from New Zealand...I had to look it up as I had no idea what it was).

The Portamento guitar arrived today...it's amazing. Even better than I'd expected. I've never played anything this high quality in my life before - everything about it is astonishing. I called the store and told them how much I love it, and the setup they did on it was brilliant...the guy was surprised, I think, that someone did that, but he seemed happy about it.

This is one of the best rants I've ever seen, and Dr. Andre Fludd is one of my favourite YouTubers.

I feel waves of nostalgia whenever I see these kinds of things. The 1980's were so much more futuristic than today, and I love it. :)

This is an intriguing video (if you're interested in how pickups work).

I'd heard rumors last year that this might be the year. They've been pumping out a ton of anniversary issues, though. We've talked about scheduling a tour - my wife is antsy to get back to Ocean City, so we'll piggyback those. The tours sell out way in advance, though. I'm going to Earthquaker Day in a few weeks - always a PRS presence there, I'll see what I can find out.

I may have posted this info on another thread but it’s appropriate for the guitar thread, I'm heading to another camp Upstate. This time it’s the Marty Schwartz Music Camp and his friends Steve Stine (Guitar Zoom) and Micheal Palmisano (Guitar Gate) will be attending. If you don't know these guys have dominated YouTube guitar lesson sites for years.

An added bonus is Eric Gales and Jared James Nichols will also be there. You never know who else will be there.

These things are a lot of fun as you spend a few days up in the mountains jamming and learning and bonding with fellow guitar enthusiasts.

I usually attend the Adrian Belew/ Tony Levin camp but my daughter is getting married that week and I'm too busy. That is a good one too.

Anybody else ever to a guitar camp or even a day camp?

Today was Earthquaker Day 2025 in Akron, OH - close to Rennyland! So I packed my wife in the car and we headed off to Spaghetti Warehouse (in Akron - it's the closest to us) and we made a day of it.

Earthquaker Devices is a pedal maker based in Akron. They make some cool pedals - I really discovered them two years ago when I went to my first Earthquaker Day. I had to miss last year's because some people thought my daughter's wedding was more important. Kids!

This year, I had one pedal in my crosshairs, and a few others I wanted to try (again). The one I really wanted was the Avalanche Run, which is a reverb/delay pedal. I have another pedal of theirs that does some similar things, but this is a more direct reverb pedal. It sounds gorgeous, and I can see running it into my DAWs in stereo.

One thing about Earthquaker Day is they make some different colorways available, and I'm always up for something different. The one I picked up is purple-based, and I picked up some purple knobs to pimp it out. Tom'w's project!

The one the almost derailed me is the Rainbow Machine. I'm pretty sure I've played with this before and decided it wasn't for me. Today was different - I really liked it (didn't hurt that I found a purple version of this one, too). It's hard to describe what it does - there's pitch shifting, but a lot more. Even my wife was impressed - I loved watching her expression change when I hit the Magic button. In the end, I saved it for next year. But man, the possibilities...

Got to chat with guys at the PRS table, who gave me some 40th anniversary swag. The guys at the Stewmac table were quite helpful - I may be buying another pedal kit from them. And on the way out at the end of the day, I got to meet and thank Jamie Stillman, the owner of Earthquaker. Very cool dude. Already looking forward to next year!
