CBGB's - the club that (arguably) was the formation of the punk/new wave scene.....alot of the sound started here before going to England (likely my next poll).

I'm limiting the poll to the heyday of the mid-70's when all of the scene was new. There were other punk/noise etc. bands in the 80's, that would get their start here as well.

Not all here are punk/new wave, but were known as being among the regular CBGBs bands at the time.

Go ahead and vote. I even put an option for punk haters, so there's a voting option for everyone.

Other: I saw Gary Valentine's band The Know there, circa 1980, and they were fantastic. Also saw some bigger names at CBGB who put on lesser shows.

Making me pick between Patti Smith and the Ramones is especially cruel.

It's a toss up between the Ramones & The Talking Heads for me. Since I could only pick one, I voted for the Ramones.

Where is the "all" option? :) I have to go with Ramones if I've got to pick just one.

My ancient mix-tape of these acts was titled "Jimbo: The Formative Years."

Looks like the old Live at CBGB's CD is OOP and going for serious money at Amazon. Although most of the acts listed in the poll aren't represented on the CD anyway.

I don't really like them more than Patti Smith or Television or The Ramones but someone had to vote for The Shirts. And they did run a close fourth.

The Ramones.

Their albums (especially the first four) were loads of fun, and they had a nice long career.

T-Heads.

I like my punk kinda artsy. Similarly, I like the Clash better than the Pistols.

Yeah! I was going to say them too. That's where they got their start even if it was the late 80's, so that's my vote as well.
There's even a special live disc from around 1989 that was recorded there and a recent one too.
