Found this info on an upcoming reissue of the classic Marillion "Misplaced Childhood" album. Steven Wilson is involved so I really look forward to hearing what he does with the release.

https://www.nika.si/Rock/Misplaced_Chil ... e_Edition/

I am assuming this will be available via the band's web page in the future.

I'll be getting this for sure.

Looks like July 7 is the date.

I hope they do the whole EMI era up to 1995.

Marillion helped revitalise progressive rock in 1985 when the band released its third studio album, Misplaced Childhood. The concept record became the British quintet’s most commercially successful album, scoring Top Five hits with “Kayleigh” and “Lavender.” Parlophone builds on the album’s legacy with two new versions that boast remastered sound and unreleased recordings.

MISPLACED CHILDHOOD (DELUXE EDITION) will be released on July 7 as a 4CD/1BluRay set and 4LP boxed set version.

The CD/BluRay set includes the original album newly remastered and a 5.1 surround remix by acclaimed producer Steven Wilson. It’s accompanied by a previously unreleased concert from Holland that features a performance of Misplaced Childhood in its entirety, plus demos and rarities remastered exclusively for this set.

The BluRay disc contains an hour-long documentary about the album and promo videos for album singles “Lavender”, “Kayleigh”, “Lady Nina” and “Heart Of Lothian.” Also featured is the original album remixed by Steven Wilson in 5.1 Surround Sound and the 2017 Remaster in high resolution 96kHz 24 bit. Rounding out the disc are Wilson’s Surround Sound and Stereo remixes of “Lady Nina,” the B-side to “Kayleigh.” The entire set is presented in a case-bound book that includes a 60-page booklet with liner notes written by rock writer Dave Everley.

The vinyl version of MISPLACED CHILDHOOD (DELUXE EDITION) features the newly remastered version of the original album and the entire concert from Holland. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl, the four LPs are presented in a 12” x 12” lift-top box, completing the set is a beautiful 24 page booklet which contains replica tour program and extensive writing on the history of the album and how it came to be.

Singer Derek Dick (aka Fish), guitarist Steve Rothery, keyboardist Mark Kelly, bassist Pete Trewavas and percussionist Ian Mosley recorded Misplaced Childhood at Hansa Tonstudio in Berlin, Germany during the spring of 1985. A concept record with two continuous pieces of music, the song cycle explored themes of lost love, lost childhood, and more. Released in June 1985, it was an immediate success, topping the U.K. album chart and earning platinum status. The album included three big hits: “Kayleigh” (#2), “Lavender” (#5), and “Heart Of Lothian” (#29).

Discs two and three contain an October 1985 concert recorded Live at the Muziekcentrum Vredenburg in the city of Utrecht. The performance includes the entire Misplaced Childhood album along with several songs from the band’s earlier albums, like “Script For A Jester’s Tear” and “Fugazi.”

All of the live recordings are previously unreleased except for “Chelsea Monday,” which was the B-side to “Heart Of Lothian” (The full concert is included with the MISPLACED CHILDHOOD (DELUXE EDITION) LP set).

CD, Vinyl and Digital breakout versions of the newly remastered original album will follow later in the year.

I thought Peter Mew did a very decent job on the 2 disc sets. They were not "loud" and I enjoyed the bonus material. But this new set is loaded, I hope to get it through their site to avoid the "big boys" like Amazon, we shall see what pricing is like.

I never upgraded from vinyl, so I'm going to have to seriously consider this if the price is good.

Wilson?? I am so there! The UK 2 cd remasters were dreadful (for some reason the Canadian versions weren't quite as loud. No idea why). I hope he does the entire Fish/Marillion catalog. Only neg for me from the track listing is I would have liked to see all 3 cd's on the blu-ray in hi-res instead of the promo videos.

I'll be getting this for sure. Also just read that Wilson is interested in working with "Camel". Man, I hope that happens. Hearing "The Snow Goose" in 5.1 would be mind blowing.

$6 cheaper than the Amazon yesterday due to the high international shipping. Wonder if the USA version of Fishheads will offer it at a lower shipping rate? I'll keep looking, but thanks for the tip!

I don't care about Blu Ray or 5.1 but looks like I'd have no choice.

I'd really only be willing to pay about $25-$30 so I'll be waiting a while.

IF they had put all the outtakes on the blu (& I don't get why they didn't as they would have EASILY fit) I would prefer a blu standalone at a lower price. This is my 2nd fav Marillion album, & as the current cd sucks to my ears, it's a must buy for me. (Vinyl fans, there is an EMI UK 180 gram LP I used to own that's excellent. Not sure why it's so much better as this was a digital recording).

The last remaster doesn't sound that bad by Peter Mew, but it's not the greatest.

The original CD actually sounds just fine, but here, Wilson will work his wonders.

To be honest, the original album was mastered and mixed so damn well, there's no need to mess with it, but since they are, it's in the right hands.

The thing that surprised about the vinyl being so good, is that this was recorded with fairly primitive early a/d convertors. I'm really not sure how they made the vinyl sound so much better, but they did.

I agree, if anyopne can do the job, it's Mr Wilson. Hope he does Clutching also.

From Steven Wilson today:

"This time last year I was asked to create a 5.1 mix of the classic mid 80's number one album "Misplaced Childhood" by my buddies Marillion, and I'm happy to hear this mix will now be included on blu-ray as part of a special 5 disc deluxe edition, scheduled for 9th July on Parlophone. Also included is a remix of B-side "Lady Nina", in both stereo and 5.1 (the main album remix only appears in 5.1 form). I understand Parlophone / Warner Music Group plan to issue all 8 of the bands EMI era albums in similar form, but please note that I won't be doing 5.1 mixes for all these, alas I simply don't have the time, but I do have the tapes for Brave, and plan to do that one when I can (if you know the album I'm sure you'll agree with me that it should sound pretty epic in surround if I don't mess it up!)

Not everyone will be aware of my history with Marillion. The short version is that in 1980 when I was 12 years old, completely by chance I attended their first ever concert at the Berkhamstead Civic Centre, literally only a few miles from where I was growing up in Hemel Hempstead. I went along with some friends to see local punk band The Chiltern Volcanos, who we were told were sharing the bill with a band called Marilyn (sic). Anyway, needless to say I loved what "Marilyn" were doing, and from then on started to follow their progress (only Steve Rothery remains from the band I saw that evening). Often compared to Genesis, I personally think they quickly outgrew the comparison and were more successful in incorporating a natural pop sensibility into their progressive rock stylings than the former band (whom I have never been much of a fan anyway, despite loving the solo work of Steve Hackett and Peter Gabriel). This reached a peak on Misplaced Childhood, which despite being a 40 minute long conceptual work, spawned several hit singles, including mega-hit Kayleigh. It's also my opinion that the album features some of the finest rock lyrics ever written. If you plan to pick it up I really hope you enjoy the 5.1 interpretation!"

The first 1,000 pre-orders via the Marillion website will be signed by the participating band members (no Steve Hogarth, obviously).
