The 18CD Collector's Edition of The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 is limited to a worldwide pressing of only 5,000 copies, and includes every note recorded during the 1965-1966 sessions, every alternate take and alternate lyric. All previously unreleased recordings have been mixed, utilizing the original studio tracking tapes as the source, eliminating unwanted 1960s-era studio processing and artifice.

The limited edition also includes rare hotel room recordings from the Savoy Hotel in London (May 4, 1965), the North British Station Hotel in Glasgow (May 13, 1966) and a Denver, Colorado hotel (March 12, 1966).

I wish that I'd know about this a year ago. It would have been worth the wait to order it from Amazon which always gives such great customer service vs. the marketers at BobDylan,com who gave the absolute shittiest worst customer service I've ever had to deal with.

As I look forward to four weeks of popcorn and ramen noodles in order to accumulate six hundred dollars, I'm googling around for more info. However, it doesn't seem that any of the usual Dylan internet destinations have yet been tipped to this Amazon listing.

One thing I do question is whether the box will actually contain all of the original vinyl and other knick-knacks, as the Amazon listing states. I do recall that thhe original blurb on Dylan's website stated something to the effect that the 18-disc edition was limited to 5,000 copies, and that no additional copies of the Collector's Edition would ever be produced. (I can't find the exact quote, but it clearly left the door open for a version of the 18-disc set with fewer frills and a designation as something other than the "collector's edition".)

Also--experience tells me that the details provided with any Amazon pre-order listings should always be taken with a grain of salt.

Of course, all this may be wishful thinking on my part--more often than not, I've tended to be dead wrong in trying to predict what Sony/Dylan have planned. I am likely also a little bitter about having paid an inflated price at http://www.bobdylan.com for (I think) the mono box in order to get the bonus 1963 Brandeis CD, only for that disc to be released on its own, in a jewel box, only months later.

Got burned on that too, but I think it was for the No Direction Home set rather than the mono box...

And...the Amazon listing now states this is "currently unavailable".

Maybe if I contacted Amazon, they'd be able to tell me mo--

Let's keep an eye on it. The entire new run of 5,000 copies might have already been pre-ordered.

It took several months to sell 5,000 copies last year. I'm guessing the product description was the problem--the "Expecting Rain" board lit up with claims of consumer fraud, given last year's claim that the only 5,000 copies of the "Collectors Edition" would ever be made.

Call me an eternal optimist, but I still think that last year's product blurb was worded to allow Sony to issue a scaled-down version of the box without the marbles and origami. I'm hoping that this is simply a no-frills 18-disc box, and all the copy taken from last year's release (the tchotchkes, the singles, the 5,000 copy limit) was never intended to accompany this reissue.
