Forgive me for being naïve and/or indelicate, but I've never been able to figure out what's happening on this (French Kiss) album cover. It appears that the woman has her tongue on Bob's cheek. What's Bob doing? I've got the original CD, and I've looked at it enough but just can't crack the code. It has no bearing on the music or anything really, but I am kind of curious...

It's nice that these are generally available after years of being in and out of print, but I don't see anything new or out of the ordinary here.

To me, it looks like he's holding a match and lighting a cigar.

It's too bad they didn't include the 12" extended mix of "Precious Love", which has never been on CD. That would have been great. Instead we just get the mono mix of the song. Sometimes you wonder if the label even knows what they have in the vaults.

She was supposed to stick her tongue into his ear, but sadly, had bad aim.

Bob Welch died in 2012 (self inflicted gunshot) which was a sad day. Really like his last two albums with Fleetwood Mac. His two albums with his band, Paris are worth a listen. I wore out the French Kiss album during my sophomore year of college. Ah, the good old days.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. Cigar & match makes sense to me, especially after watching the video. Wow, that video is... interesting. Bob's wearing the same outfit as on the album cover. Based on what we know now (see Smokin' Joe's comment), the ending is a bit shocking and uncomfortable to watch. Anyway, I like the album a lot, in spite of the dated production. I probably should check out some of his other work.
Thanks Mark. To get that price mine will be coming from Switzerland but that's OK at that price.
Rick A.
I had this on my Wish List. I saw the price drop and quickly ordered it. Mine is coming from skyvo-direct-usa. I guess their out because they're no longer listed.

Does anyone have this yet? If so, is it a marked improvement over previous versions? I have all 4 of these on CD already, including 3 of the 5 bonus tracks on "3 Hearts", so there would have to be quite an improvement in something to get me to bite again.

Where I change the channels for an hour or two
Got this set yesterday and did some casual comparisons. I have previous CD releases of French Kiss and Three Hearts to compare to; I've never owned The Other One and Man Overboard, so I can't speak to those.
French Kiss "Sentimental Lady" sounds bass shy, almost transistor radio-like. It sounds suspiciously like the equally bass anemic Japan Capitol Pastmasters pressing. Strangely, "Outskirts" sounds best on the Caroline CD. If you care about DR ratings, the Caroline CD averages at about DR10. The Dutch EMI Gold pressing 2000 from averages at DR7 and sounds much more aggressive, but it's not too bad. The 1998 Edsel two-fer with Three Hearts sounds flat in comparison. Avg DR12.
Three Hearts sounds the same as the 2003 One Way remaster, and they have the same avg DR8. Almost as punchy as the Dutch EMI Gold pressing above. The 1998 Edsel two-fer sounds flat – perhaps too flat – and averages DR11. However, I'm pretty sure its channels are reversed.

Listen to some of this earlier today. Really good sound and when checking the booklet I see it was re-mastered by Andy Pearce. He continues to do some excellent work.

Just now getting it? Did they have to make it before sending it to you from Switzerland?
Yeah, I was surprised at how good it sounded. The first disc is great. For the money I paid, it was worth it just for French Kiss alone.

Well it wasn't that bad in that it has been here for two weeks but yeah Mark, it did take some time to get to sunny Florida from the alps. And I agree, the re-mastering of French Kiss was worth the price alone for the set.
