This is a great box set. I was working at Atlantic Records when it was released but since I wasn't in one of the so-called "creative" departments I couldn't get a free copy. They let us regular employees buy it for $45, which was a bargain then and now. I'll be curious to hear about the packaging of this new release. I love how hefty the original is.

I agree. Who purchases a 9 disc set of singles but doesn't care about getting all the B-sides? They did include the B-sides on the two subsequent boxes.

There is a comp coming out later this month from Ace Records that includes some of the early Stax B sides that weren't included in this set. I have it pre-ordered.

I have the two subsequent box sets( 1968-1971) and (1971-1975) and they're all A-sides save for a few select singles. I would love to see the Stax singles given the full treatment like Hip-O-Select's Motown series.

The reissues of the 2nd and 3rd box sets in the last couple of years were in small size packaging, correct? The 1959-1968 is on a different label but I think it will also be small sized (CD brick-type). This would be a plus for me. Any confirmation of this?
