Description
The Raspberries were an American power pop/pop rock band formed in 1970 from Cleveland, Ohio. They had a run of success in the early 1970s music scene with their pop sound, which Allmusic later described as featuring "exquisitely crafted melodies and achingly gorgeous harmonies."

The members were known for their clean-cut public image, with short-hair and matching suits.

The group drew influence from the British Invasion era—especially The Beatles, The Who, The Hollies, and Small Faces—and its mod sensibility.

In both the U.S. and the UK, the Raspberries helped pioneer the power pop music style that took off after the group disbanded.

The group's "classic" lineup consisted of Eric Carmen (vocalist/guitarist/bassist), Wally Bryson (guitarist), Jim Bonfanti (drummer), and Dave Smalley (guitarist/bassist).

Their best known songs include "Go All the Way", "Let's Pretend", "I Wanna Be with You", "Tonight", and "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)".

This box set contains all the 4 albums the band recorded for Capitol Records, they have been re-mastered and the box also contains a 20 page booklet with notes by Classic Rock's Malcolm Dome.

Received my Raspberry box from the UK Saturday and the great news is that Andy Pearce did the re-mastering.

Even though I could not focus on the re-mastering due to other "distractions" I can say upon initial listen it seems much improved. Of course the original production was limiting (and unique) but with that said this looks like an improvement.

Further listening will occur later in week.

Rick said this in the listening thread tonight, and it should be brought here too:

I agree. Have only listened through Side 3 so far, but probably only SACDs could improve on this box.

Linda is so right here. Starting tonights listening with Side 3 and as with others a much improved CD sound compared to previous incarnations. What a great group the Raspberries, if they were from England instead of Cleveland they be hailed as power pop hiers to the Beatles throne. :ohyes:

Andy Pearce is fantastic, and his work on the Lizzy and Sabbath had me sold.

I will strongly consider this box.

Exactly Pete, that's how I knew his name. Interesting when you see what previous inferior Raspberries CD's go for (over $100+) while this box is a great bargain aswell.

Clamshell box housing all four albums in replicate covers. The booklet is 20 pages.
Gloss pages of liner notes are very nice and include some really cool photos including 45 picture sleeves.
The liner notes written by Malcom Dome, London June 2015.

I wonder if the 4-CD Bob Welch box set that came out at the same time is mastered by Andy Pearce?

I guess I'll find out, since I just ordered it. ;)

Only 10-11 tracks per disc? Seems like a rip off.

I wasn't aware of that until I re-read the original post.

Sometimes I read stuff too fast before commenting.

This IS a great set! Sounds fantastic.

No points, however, for mispelling Jim Bonfanti's surname throughout the liner notes!

Got this box, and really can't believe I only lived with a comp from this fine, power pop band.

Is it just me, or does it sound like KISS may have have ripped off the riff for Making It Easy with Firehouse?

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley have both been effusive in their praise of The Raspberries over the years, so it's possible.

I guess I should say "influenced by". Hearing it side-by-side, it doesn't sound so much as rip-off as an homage.
