Mike Timmins has left a note on the Facebook page for Cowboy Junkies that there will be a box set coming out this Fall called Notes Falling Slow. So far, he has revealed that the box will consist of remastered albums and a bonus album of new recordings. More details will be forthcoming.

I wonder if the original Trinity was recorded in Analog, 96/24 or 44/16? A hi-res edition would be to die for if possible.

i sure hope that the bonus album of new material is made available separately to those loyal fans who purchased all of the other albums when they originally came out.

i must say that i was not real happy with the stunt that timmins pulled with the "nomad series" box set.

i'm all for "poetic license" and all that jazz,
but "notes falling slow" hurts my grammatical ear.
should be "...slowLY."

I'm a bit confused by the "Under Cover" series on the website. There doesn't appear to be any way to buy it OR play it; so why do they even mention it? Or am i blind?

Bump: The box has now been scheduled for general release via Razor & Tie, and the Amazon pre-order link can be found in the first post. That's the least expensive way to go if you just want the music. Steve's link to Maple Music a few posts up also offers an autographed version, plus various pricier packages with extra froof.

The remastering on these discs is noticeably better than the originals, which were pretty good to begin with. The fourth disc, Notes Falling Slow, is great, probably as good as the others. These are all excellent albums, and at this price it's a real bargain.

unless of course you paid over $10 for each of the original first 3 discs, which means you are paying $16.99 just for disc #4.

i would probably pay $10+ just for disc 4, but it seems that isn't going to happen.

so, i can buy this for $16.99, trade in the old discs for $1 - $2 each, (we'll say $2 in trade just for discussion, and $10 apiece for the first 3, also just for discussion) and i'll then have all four discs for a total of $41 + tax and/or shippimg. which will be about another $3 - $4....so for $45 i get it all.

Sure, unless the remastering matters to you (it does to me), in which case you get three remastered albums for $6.99, minus what you could get for your original copies. If you figure $2 each like you do above, you get a new album for $10 and three remastered albums (which sound much better) for $.99. Sounds like a bargain to me.

If the remastering doesn't matter to you, then you still get the new album for $10.99 if you sell off your old copies. If I had bought this only for disc 4 at $16.99, it wouldn't be anywhere near the worst purchase I made this year, because the music is really good.

That's the thing: If the original recordings were analog, your statement is potentially accurate (superior a/d convertors & digital filters, though these recordings are so recent I'm not all that sure that there's been much of an improvement in a/d convertors in the last few years?); however if they were digital recordings to start with afaik about all they can do during a remastering of a digital recording is add compression (a bad thing); tweak the eq & effects (reverb, etc), lower the bit & sampling rates to the cd standard (which was obviously already done on the original cd's) and boost or lower overall volume.

you leave one very important part out of your equation: the original price you paid for the first 3 discs the first time you bought them, so add that amount to your 99¢ and it is around $40 - $45 for the whole shebang.

i don't care anyone tries to rationalize it (mastering, bonus disc, etc) not offering the 4 th disc to their fans is strictly wrong (yep, no other word fits here except: wrong) to do this. it's a money grab, pure and simple and reiterate" shame on the timmins, shame.

The money you paid for the original CDs is already gone. I'm just looking at your options from this point forward. But OK, if you want to figure in that cost, $40-$45 for four good CD albums sounds pretty reasonable to me -- that's $10-11 per disc.

I get that you don't like the fact that you can't buy the new disc by itself. But I think it's a pretty reasonable offer.

Because some "people" will seize upon just about anything to rationalize their behavior... if you're seriously bitching about $16 for a 4CD set, that's not exactly a vote of support for the artist.

By comparison, their most recent single disc release (The Kennedy Suite) is currently selling on Amazon for $17.67. Tell you what Renny, send me $17 plus postage and I'll send you the 4th disc from the box set separately, just the way you wanted.

I hadn't noticed they were selling it that cheap. I still tend to agree with Rennie, as a significant # of people bought the 1st 3 discs at $15 each.

you completely miss my point, money has nothing to do with it for me, but in cases like this (and whenever an album is re-released with additions after the majority of fans have bought it originally) i can see exactly why people 'steal' the additional stuff.
