Bump: Added the cover image to the first post.

Warner has confirmed that the tracks on this new pressing will be sourced from the past year's Zeppelin remaster series.

Makes sense from a continuity standpoint, but I like having the unique mastering from the original release as a contrast to Page's effort.

The original pressing with the previous remastering is actually still in print, although I doubt it will be for much longer:

What do you mean to contrast "Page's effort?"

I believe all of them were remastered by John Davis.

1990 - George Marino & Jimmy Page remasters
2007 - John Davis remasters
2014/2015 - New John Davis remasters directly approved by Jimmy Page

(Not to mention the promo-only Dave Collins remasters from 2001... 8-) )

I hadn't heard of the old ones as Marino AND Page. Only as Marino, which is realistic. I image Page supervised like with the recent round.

They were and I believe the tracks that had been remastered for Mothership in 2007 were used on the new album remasters as well.

I don't think there is any difference at all, unless they wiped out the remastering done in 2007 by the same guy (John Davis) which makes little sense.

All of the 2007 and 2014-15 remastering was overseen by Page.

The 2007 Mothership remasters by John Davis utilized the Marino/Page digital transfers from the early '90s.

The latest remasters (also by John Davis, but directly supervised by Page) utilized new 192 kHz/24 bit digital transfers from the original analog tapes.

Mothership wasn't from the original tapes?

I thought that was the big selling point.

And what were the source tapes for the 90's remasters?

The '90s remasters were created from digital transfers of the master tapes by George Marino and Jimmy Page. These were subsequently used for almost all commercial Zeppelin releases for the next 15 or so years.

When Mothership was released in 2007, John Davis posted on the Hoffman forum that he "would have loved to have gone back to the original quarter inch masters but time constraints had me remastering from 1610 flat transfers" which he described as "far from ideal", adding that he hoped to "get the chance to remaster from the bands quarter inch originals" in the future.

So Mothership did feature newly remastered tracks, but not from the original master tapes nor any newly created digital transfers.

So why not create a new comp rather than the same one with new remastering?

Casual people won't notice a difference and this comp is still on the charts, so it sells as is.

Strange decision, but the quality from the flat transfers in 2007 was very good, although the new remasters sound softer to me which is better in many ways.

8-) Renny shouldn't lose any sleep... I'm sure we haven't seen the end of Led Zeppelin compilations.

Now that the initial reissue campaign is complete, I'm guessing we'll see "complete studio albums" and "complete studio recordings" box sets and at least one new compilation in 2016.

Pre-ordering the new remaster is much cheaper from Amazon UK at the moment, about $10 less:

Now the British price has been reduced by a further £2. Over there it's being considered a budget compilation, but not here in the States.

I'm a little lost here, is this a true re-master using the latest remastered tracks for the Zep reissue campaign or just a reissue?

It's the same tracklist and artwork as the previous issue from 2007, but it uses the newly remastered versions of all the songs.

Thanks Linda. I was thinking that but couldn't verify. Then at this price this is a steal. Pre-ordered!
