In March 2015 Universal is releasing a 5-disc super deluxe of Simple Minds' Sparkle in the Rain. Like the Tears for Fears Songs from the Big Chair box, it will include a 5.1 mix of the album on DVD by Steven Wilson.

This one is slightly underwhelming compared to the TFF box. For one thing, it's priced higher at the moment on amazon.uk despite containing fewer discs!

Long regarded as one of the jewels in the band’s catalogue, 1983’s ‘Sparkle In The Rain’ kicked off a run of three consecutive Number 1 albums in the UK for Simple Minds and delivered the classic hit singles ‘Waterfront’, ‘Up On The Catwalk’ and ‘Speed Your Love To Me’.

This new 4CD / 1DVD Super Deluxe Box Set version comprises a host of bonus material including; B-sides and extended mixes; BBC sessions; a previously unreleased Glasgow Barrowlands concert; promo videos; Top Of The Pops and Oxford Road Show footage; a booklet containing sleeve notes and interviews plus track by track annotation and a reproduction concert programme. It was extensively remastered in 2014 at Abbey Studios, London.

Excellent! I will go for the box if price reduced. Being blown away by the Tears for Fears set this may be impossible to pass up.

The 2-disc version looks quite nice to me, too.

I wish they would make these 2-disc sets 3 discs instead, with the DVD. I like Simple Minds and this album will sound great in surround sound, but I may not be able to justify the cost of the box set edition. I felt the same way about the Tears For Fears set.

I jumped on the TFF box and don't regret it. It had enough extras to justify the expense. This one, not so much. The last thing I need is more live Simple Minds, especially from a concert that many folks are saying was not that great. I'd love to have the booklets and extended liner notes, etc, but I'll probably go for the 2-disc version on this one as well.

It pisse me off to no end that they put a DVD in the super deluxe box and not the BD as well. TFF did the same thing.

Word around the 'net is that the DVD and Blu-ray have mono in place of stereo. These discs are being repressed by Universal.

I can't tell from the amazon listing. Anyone know if the 5.1 mix is available in the blu ray? I assume it is but don't want to order otherwise.

I will likely pass on this one; other than the 1 song in the 80's movie (was it Pretty in Pink?) SM never did a thing for me.

I can confirm the Audio on 2.0 on BluRay is faulty as is the DVD in the box set. Avoid until they put it out with corrected discs. Quality control is no longer a consideration it seems with music on disc.

What a shame this is, I haven't even received my box set and I'm ALREADY disappointed. They better announce to a replacement plan very soon.

Universal have set up a replacement process. In the UK, send the disc and booklet (which was missing some planned content) to:

Include your return address and they'll mail you a corrected disc and booklet.

Mention the disc and booklet in the body of your message, provide your physical mailing address, and you should receive replacements without having to ship the faulty items overseas.

I wonder if this means it is safe to order the blu ray again? Presumably there was a recall of the defective presses. I'd probably avoid buying from a 3rd party amazon seller just to be safe on this one.
