Product Description
Singer Dee C. Lee enjoyed a prolific solo career in the mid-1980s in parallel to her role as a vocalist in The Style Council. Dee enjoyed huge success with the 60s-styled ballad ‘See The Day’, which reached No. 3 in late 1985. Her resulting debut album Shrine (1986) has long been out-of-print on CD and is now expanded with a whole bonus disc of non-album tracks. In addition to ‘See The Day’, the package also includes her minor hit ‘Come Hell Or Waters High’. Style Council/Paul Weller fans will enjoy the CD debut for Dee’s beautiful performance of ‘The Paris Match’ (credited to “The Council Quartet” and featuring Weller) and the live version of ‘Luck’ (which again boasted performances from Style Council members).

Fantastic!
I suggested a Dee C Lee singles comp about two years back on the Cherry Red forum (when they still had it running); it got a pretty good response among the forum posters, but nothing from the Cherry Red team themselves.... but I guess they must have put it on their "to do" list and came up with this instead.

I still think a single-only comp would be better (less dross/padding), but I'm just happy to get Dee's version of "The Paris Match" on CD. (It's the definitive version IMO - better than the Weller or Tracy Thorn-led Council versions, although they're all great).

Although I think it's a shame that a couple of songs are appearing only in their extended versions, when there's only 13 tracks on disc 1. A better idea IMO would be to have put all the 7" versions/regular (non-instrumental) non-album songs on disc 1; and save disc 2 for just remixes/alternate version and the semi-instrumentals.

A late bump for Dee C. Lee/Style Council/Paul Weller fans. Here's an unwrapping video for the Shrine DE done by a Japanese collector. Not in English, but he shows off the packaging, leafs through the booklet and so on:

The remastering is fine. I agree that including the single edits would have been a good idea -- there is room for them on the discs -- but her first couple of releases were intended as club/dance tracks so the 12" versions included here are actually the "default" versions moreso than the 7" edits were. (The 7" B-sides are included here, BTW.)

The Style Council themselves deserve this kind of treatment across their entire catalogue, so I'm hoping that Cherry Red will license them in the future.
