I'm surprised this album is worthy of a deluxe edition. I worked at a record store when this came out and we got a TON of them returned. Most of the people who bought it were expecting a whole album of "More Than Words" and were very disappointed when that was the only song on the album like it. "More Than Words" was a huge hit, but not at all reflective of the band's actual style. It was one of the albums that for years people cited in discussions about albums with "only one good song."

I personally hated "More Than Words" but did really like the follow-up single "Hole Hearted."

Huh - I had it in my head that "Hole Hearted" was released as a single before "More Than Words".

I can understand why there were a ton of returns - buying this for MTW is like going to see Bob Saget's standup expecting the Full House guy. Personally, I liked the album - it's my favorite Extreme album. I'll hope for - but I won't expect - the bonus disc to include their performance from the Freddie Mercury tribute concert.

Never was into these guys, but Nuno is an amazing, brilliant player (and has one helluva gig playing with Rhianna), Gary was a dynamite singer (and yes, he WAS good in VH) and all the guys were talented including one of the best drummers on the planet (who was there in the latter years) Mike Mangini.

Three Sides To Every Story was high art and reminded me of Queen.

I still love "More Than Words" and always hated "Hole Hearted".

So strange their only big hits (they had a few minor ones) were acoustic.

Current Dream Theater skin-beater, for those not in the know. Unbelievable to watch, that guy. He's literally on par with Neil Peart (imo).

Unless the price is stupid, I'm in if only for this. I've heard this several times on XM, but never could find it.

I hole heartedly (sorry) agree with that. Its about as close to a masterpiece as rock music gets. The songwriting growth from their first cd to this was amazing, but Nuno was always great.

Extreme has recently been touring playing Pornograffitti live + hits, which may be the reason they are releasing this.

It will be nice to have all those extras in one place, though I think I may have one or two others on assorted cd singles from that time period.

They are one of the best live bands I ever saw, and I also liked Gary fronting VanHalen live (the cd was a letdown).

Agreed on all accounts (including both VH points)!

However, this bonus disc is really weak with 4 (!) versions of "More Than Words" and 2 of "Get The Funk Out".

Seeing as III Sides To Every Story was big in the UK, perhaps a Deluxe of that will happen too.

I worked record retail at the time as well. I can only remember having one copy returned, but the people I worked with were pretty aggressive stearing people outside of Extreme's demographic away from the full album and towards the single. Basically if a 50 year old woman came up to the register with it, we pointed out the title and explained that this album was probably not for them.

We still ended up selling a crapload of the album and I don't remember this one filling up the used bins at all.

I can't imagine demand for this.
