Product Description
The new and very welcome trend of releasing full runs of classic concert stands will be joined by the Allman Brothers Band on July 29 with their The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings.

The six-CD set expands the classic At Fillmore East set to include all of the shows from their March 12 and 13, 1971 run along with the June 27 show for the Fillmore's final weekend.

Produced by Bill Levenson, who compiled the definitive Skydog: The Duane Allman Retrospective (Rounder, 2013), The 1971 Fillmore East Recordings captures one of the most inspired improvisational rock units ever at the peak of their prodigious powers, blazing their way through extended instrumental elaborations, so taut and virtuosic, that the crowds that packed the Fillmore East on those memorable nights were utterly transfixed.

In his detailed notes for the set, Allmanologist John Lynskey writes: “From its inception in March 1969, the Allman Brothers Band rapidly established a near-mythical reputation through its incendiary, marathon concerts. No other group could touch the Allman Brothers when it came to extended, improvised jamming; they truly were in a league and dimension of their own. Duane Allman was joined by his brother Gregg on keyboards and vocals, the dual drumming combo of Jaimoe and Butch Trucks, bassist extraordinaire Berry Oakley, and Dickey Betts, Duane’s foil on guitar. Together, these individually talented artists blended into a unit whose sum exceeded the total of its impressive singular parts. The group toured relentlessly—they spent 300 days on the road in 1970 - honing their sound and building a loyal fan base, one show at a time. An Allman Brothers’ concert could not be explained, it could only be experienced, and by word of mouth, the group became known as ‘the people’s band’ for their no-frills approach to live music.”

Butch Trucks recalls "That weekend in March of ‘71 when we recorded At Fillmore East, most of the time it clicked. We were finally starting to catch up with what we were listening to. We had lived together…we got in trouble together; we all just moved as a unit. And then, when we got onstage to play, that’s what it was all about—and it just happened to all come together that weekend."

No official announcement, but Bill Levenson posted a picture of the At Fillmore East album cover on FB and when someone asked him if he was working on a Fillmore East box, he went "Sssshhhh."

Stay tuned

There's already 2.0 hi-res SACD & HD tracks editions

In fact my first thought was aren't there ALREADY 3 different cd editions (with different tracks, performances, &/or mixes of this)? Or is it only 2?

There is still some Fillmore material unreleased. It may include footage of Fillmore on a DVD at last.

I'd really love to see footage of Duane. I don't think that I ever have.

As for the album itself, how many variations do I have- 4? 5? 6? I've lost count.

I'm only interested in this reissue because Bill L. is involved. This release my resemble the Band's "Academy" reissue.

It may also resemble the Humble Pie Rockin' The Fillmore set.[if by chance there is a Blu ray in this set hopefully they'll also include the quad mix]

That would be sweet. The Humble Pie is killer! And a Blu-ray can make this all encompassing.

I read someplace (I believe the book Skydog…which is excellent btw) that on the first night of the Fillmore run that turned into the FE album they were accompanied by horns. I would LOVE to hear that show and would pay a premium for this box if it included that.

That's what they're counting on.

"At Fillmore East" has been hacked up and mixed and remixed many different ways since the first vinyl release. The only way to do it right is to release the 4 complete sets from 3/12/71 & 3/13/71 and the 6/27/71 final Fillmore East show. If they want to make it definitive, they could release all of the Owsley Stanley "sound journal" tapes from 2/11,13,14/70 and any other surviving board tapes from the venue. That is something I would buy.

FYI: MoFi has the original vinyl mix slated for a Hybrid SACD release sometime this year. They have already released "Eat A Peach" on SACD.

And on the other forum people are raving about the Platinum SHM-CD as being the best sounding so far. Ecclipsing the MFSL. And I for one, have never been nearly as disappointed with the Fillmore Concerts Box as others have.

Cool. Curious hot will stack up against the Japan SACD?
