I found this little news snippet on the Deep Purple site http://www.thehighwaystar.com/A RAINBOW box set provisionally entitled A LIGHT IN THE DARK is being released. It contains many previously unreleased tracks, and spans the band’s years from 1975 – 1984. More news soon, but it could be out before the end of the year.

That's funny-I had just mentioned this in the Black Masquerade thread a little bit before this post. There are two boxes due-a Singles box which I believe is due first this fall and this box which I am really looking forward to. Hope it's this year. I was told there probably won't be any more individual remasters but this box should be great.

I have all of the remasters as well as the deluxe sets, so I'm hoping this will have even more material to warrant a purchase.

I have been told the DVD is looking quite special for the box set. Think Donnington 1980. That's all I can say for now and I don't know if that's going to be what we hope it is...but it might!

It will be 5 CDs and a DVD. And the DVD is...Donnington 1980. Wow-after all this time! I do not know the DVD contents but this is all I have been told so far. The CDs will feature classics and rare tracks, though I do not know what rare tracks are being included. As this is truly one of my favorite musical acts, I will be purchasing it or asking Santa.

I'm hoping it is the full Donnington show, but 5 CD's? That seems like a lot for a band that released only 8 albums.

Whatever.
In any case, I am curious as to what the rare cuts are since there wasn't a whole lot of note on the remasters.
There easily could be a lot of live material though as almost every tour had radio broadcasts and the early tours had lots of recordings from the band's archives.

I would love to get some live material, especially with the Bonnett and JLT years. The Dio years have been represented ad nauseum already.

I told them what shows I knew of were available from the Bonnett and JLT years but whether they were able to get the rights to any of it I don't know. I'd guess that a good amount of live material has to be on here.

Maybe they ought to do a Dio box and a Bonnet/Turner box.
Rainbow is essentially two bands and I think this would be a way where everybody wins!!

If I remember right, there was only two songs on there from them.
