Product Description
Los Angeles band the Seeds stand prominent amongst the handful of mid-60s garage bands whose influence is palpable in rock to this day. Led by charismatic frontman Sky Saxon, their unique brand of exciting, minimalist rock 'n' roll has stayed contemporary. The minor chart statistic of the group's two original US hit singles Can't Seem To Make You Mine and Pushin' Too Hard belies the fact that the Seeds' music is known and enjoyed the world over.

The Seeds' catalogue has been in major need of an overhaul for decades, and now with this spectacular repackage of their debut album, the campaign to reinstate the Seeds long-players to their rightful glory begins. 1966's The Seeds is a fan favorite, featuring both hits, and sundry other staples of their repertoire such as No Escape, Girl I Want You and Nobody Spoil My Fun. The record still represents the band at their edgiest and most focused.

Our deluxe reissue of The Seeds boasts the superlative, punchy mono mix, along with ten bonus tracks - eight of which are previously unissued - doubling the length of the original album. These include the unedited take of Evil Hoodoo, the unreleased Dreaming Of Your Love and early versions of the classic B-sides Daisy Mae and Out Of The Question. The 40-page, heavily illustrated booklet examines the Seeds' early career in real detail, based on fresh research and interviews with the surviving participants.

Compilation and sleeve note by Alec Palao and CD is presented as a foldout digipak with a deluxe booklet.

1. Can't Seem To Make You Mine
2. No Escape
3. Lose Your Mind
4. Evil Hoodoo
5. Girl I Want You
6. Pushin' Too Hard
7. Try To Understand
8. Nobody Spoil My Fun
9. It's A Hard Life
10. You Can't Be Trusted
11. Excuse, Excuse
12. Fallin' In Love

Bonus Tracks:
13. She's Wrong (GNP Crescendo LP GNPS 2107)
14. Daisy Mae (Take 1)
15. Dreaming Of Your Love
16. Out Of The Question (Version 1, Take 1)
17. Out Of The Question (Version 1, Master)
18. Pushin' Too Hard (Take 1)
19. Girl I Want You (Alternate Overdub, Take 6A)
20. Evil Hoodoo (Unedited Take And Intercut Section)
21. It's A Hard Life (Take 3)
22. Nobody Spoil My Fun (Alternate Overdub, Take 3A)

I'm definitely getting this. I have the Crescendo and Diablo 2-fers combining this with A Web Of Sound, and don't love either....(esp Diablo screwing up some of the Web songs).

It's also worth it that Lose Your Mind is back in its rightful place.

I hope Big Beat gets this right....and that they continue with their other albums.

This is a must-have! I've never been thrilled with the Crescendo cd, which seems a bit muffled to my ears, but never having heard it any other way, I can't but wonder how the original recordings sound. Still, great album!

This is an outstanding job by Big Beat. This album has never sounded better on CD. The extra tracks are fun too....especially the 17 minute Evil Hoodoo take.

If this isn't great enough, the booklet lists upcoming remasters of A Web Of Sound, Future, and Raw & Alive....all going to be 2 CDs each!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Charles for the review. I have been sitting on the fence on this and yeah, I got the Crescendo cd, that Dean H. was saying and agree with his assessment.

Therefore I will go with Big Beat (love the stuff they did with The Zombies including the killer box set) and the announcement that they will be doing subsquent titles. How cool is this! 8-)

Product Description
Big Beat s second instalment in its much-anticipated upgrade of the catalogue of garage legends the Seeds continues with their second album, A Web Of Sound , released in October 1966 just as their classic Pushin Too Hard 45 began to ascend the US hit parade. Written and recorded during the band's residencies at Hollywood s underground haven Bido Litos, alongside Love and the embryonic Doors in the summer of 1966, A Web Of Sound showcased a more mature, developing Seeds sound. The record became notorious for the 14-minute showstopper Up In Her Room , but it also includes some of the group's signature tunes including Mr Farmer , Tripmaker and A Faded Picture . The bulk of the contents of this deluxe two-disc set are new to compact disc, including the original stereo mix of A Web Of Sound , which has not been available since the 1960s. Also featured is the album s mono incarnation, as well as an unused mono mix of the stop-gap 1967 LP A Full Spoon Of Seedy Blues , made in late 1966. A selection of previously unreleased outtakes rounds out the package. As with all Big Beat's Seeds reissues, A Web Of Sound comes as a trifold digipak with extensive illustrations and fresh commentary from assorted participants on both its contents and the career of these garage rock avatars.

Did anyone here buy the new A Web Of Sound yet?

I got it at my indy store and the 2nd disc was defective......tracking problems (that flapping/ticking noise) 3 songs into the bonus tracks. I exchanged it yesterday, and disc 2 was bad again....though this time not until the final song.

I'm guessing there were bad pressing that went to some distributors, so if anyone here got it from Amazon or elsewhere, let me know if your last song on disc 2 (Buzzin' Around) plays fine.......thanks.

"The Future is next month......."
Amazon UK is now showing Future with a May 27th release date

Product Description
Big Beat's Seeds reissue series continues with an expanded edition of their third and most controversial album, 1967's idiosyncratic Future. At this point the band, fronted by the enigmatic Sky Saxon, were hugely popular in their native Los Angeles, and seemed poised for major stardom on the heels of their national hit Pushin' Too Hard . Encouraged by their manager, Lord Tim Hudson, the album was Saxon's psychedelic missive to the world; an outrageous gesture with no expense spared: copious string and horn overdubs on a selection of material that espoused the singer's new-found flower power philosophy. Nevertheless, Future contains many fan favourites such as Painted Doll, Flower Lady, Two Fingers and A Thousand Shadows . Big Beat's deluxe 2CD edition features the remastered stereo album, along with a selection of period mono mixes, including several that are previously unissued. A second disc, Contact High: The Future Sessions, is a fascinating rundown of the album s creation, utilising outtakes, alternate mixes and previously unheard versions to demonstrate that, beneath all the overdubs and florid platitudes, on Future, the Seeds collective rock n roll heart beat as strongly as ever. As with Big Beat's previous Seeds remasters, Future comes as a foldout digipak with a jam-packed booklet full of revelatory details and eye-popping pictorial, to accompany this definitive edition of Sky and the Seeds psychedelic masterwork. Compilation and sleeve note by Alec Palao.

I got a defective copy where the last song doesn't play as well. This, plus the Country Joe Electric Music for the Mind and Body disc makes the second Ace purchase in a month which is faulty. I guess I'll contact them and see if they'll send out a replacement. I'll keep everybody informed as to how this turns out.

I finally picked this up, and I agree 100% with Charles. This just blows the previous cds out of the water. I had always assumed that the muddy sound on my old cd was just how the record was recorded, but on this new release, the sound is clean, clear, and crisp. And fuzzy, but that IS how it was recorded. The studio chatter on some of the bonus tracks is priceless. This is really the way to do a deluxe edition!

Got the replacement for the Country Joe CD and it played fine but my replacement for the Web of Sound disc still won't play in some players I have. It plays fine in others though.

Product Description
Raw & Alive The Seeds In Concert may just possibly be the greatest live album that never was. Released in 1968 towards the end of the original quartet's career, the album was an attempt to capture on vinyl the frenzy these garage legends delivered at their live performances. Highly regarded by Seeds aficionados the LP contains exciting versions of band classics such as No Escape and Up In Her Room , as well as superlative new originals such as the punkoid Satisfy You: a clear return to form after the flowery Future long-player. But most are unaware that the performances were cut live in the studio, with applause added afterwards. On this deluxe edition of Raw & Alive both dubbed and undubbed versions of the album are presented for the first time,. The original idea was for a Seeds concert to be taped in front of a studio audience, but the results were deemed unsatisfactory. The second disc of our reissue features this recording, which 45 years later, sounds just fine. It also boasts rare live versions of tunes such as Fallin , A Faded Picture and the previously unheard song Hubbly Bubbly Love . As with all the Big Beat Seeds reissues, Raw & Alive is presented as a gatefold 2CD digipak and includes a hefty booklet, packed with unseen photos of the Seeds live in their mid-60s heyday. Compilation and notes by Alec Palao.

Product Description
Big Beat's Seeds campaign wraps up with a definitive anthology of their entire run of singles from 1965 to 1970, a collection that includes some of the band's best-known material including Can't Seem To Make You Mine, Mr Farmer and their lone Top 40 hit, the garage rock touchstone that is Pushin Too Hard. Singles such as Satisfy You, The Wind Blows Your Hair and Bad Part Of Town have become as equally renowned in the years since. And Seeds B-sides are almost as popular - tracks such as Out Of The Question, The Other Place and Wild Blood are all fan favourites. This exhaustive collection is drawn from the original singles masters, which in most cases have never been available since their first issue; most cuts feature unique mixes and different edits. After leaving the GNP Crescendo label in 1969, the Seeds moved to MGM for two swansong 45s, both included here, never before on CD. Bonus tracks are Excuse Excuse with a different vocal, issued on a French EP, and the original, unedited version of Pushin' Too Hard . In keeping with Big Beat's deluxe reissues of the Seeds regular albums, Singles As & Bs 1965-1970 is presented in a digipak with an extensive and heavily illustrated booklet with full notes by Alec Palao.
