Both a critical and commercial success, in 1994 Superunknown debuted at #1 on the Billboard charts and earned the band two Grammys® for the singles 'Black Hole Sun' and 'Spoonman' in 1995. As relevant today as they were in 1994, the multi-platinum-selling Soundgarden continues to be in the Top 10 most played artists on Active Rock radio and the band's top 4 most played radio songs - accumulating over 1 million in total airplay and 4 billion in total audience to date - are all from this very beloved album: 'Black Hole Sun', 'Fell on Black Days', 'Spoonman' and 'The Day I Tried To Live'. In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked the album as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and the 100 Greatest Albums of the Nineties.

Soundgarden Plan 5-Disc 'Superunknown' 20th Anniversary ReissueSeattle band will release collection of demos, rehearsal recordings and unreleased tracks

Soundgarden will be diving back into the Superunknown this spring with multi-disc, rarities-packed special editions of their 1994 album. In celebration of the record's 20th anniversary, the band have planned two deluxe reissues and a vinyl edition of the LP, which debuted at Number One when it was originally released, for a June 3rd release. Each disc will contain demos and recordings from rehearsals, many of which have never been released.

The two-CD Deluxe Edition contains a remastered version of the album alongside a second disc of 16 demos, rehearsals and B-sides; 10 of the tracks have never previously been released. The Super Deluxe Edition expands the album to a five-disc release with even more rarities, discs dedicated to B-sides, demos and rehearsals and a version of the album mixed in Blu-ray Audio 5.1 Surround Sound. That edition also comes with a hardbound book with liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Fricke, never-before-seen photos by Kevin Westerberg and "reimagined" album art by artist Josh Graham. The band is also putting out a double-LP edition of the album on 200-gram vinyl.

To announce the release, the group posted a rehearsal version of "The Day I Tried to Live."

Soundgarden have also planned a special vinyl release – Superunknown: The Singles – for Record Store Day on April 19th. It contains five 10-inch records with all of the B-sides from the original single releases for "Spoonman," "The Day I Tried to Live," "Black Hole Sun," "My Wave" and "Fell on Black Days." Each will include reimagined art and all of the attendant B-sides that appeared on the original single releases.

Due June 3, the project features Soundgarden’s breakthrough release; propelled by the singles “Spoonman”, “Black Hole Sun”, “Fell On Black Days”, “My Wave” and “The Day I Tried To Live”, the album debuted at No. 1 in the US and went on to sell more than 9 million copies worldwide, including 5 million in the States alone.

The “Superunknown” reissue will be released in two deluxe versions, as outlined below.

The Deluxe Edition is a 2-CD package featuring the remastered album along with disc two consisting of demos, rehearsals, B-sides and more.

The Super Deluxe Edition is a 5-CD package featuring the remastered album, additional demos, rehearsals and B-sides and the fifth disc is the album mixed in Blu-ray Audio 5.1 Surround Sound.

The Super Deluxe Edition is packaged in a hardbound book with a lenticular cover, liner notes by David Fricke and newly reimagined album artwork designed by Josh Graham. It also features never-before-seen band photography by Kevin Westerberg.

A 2-LP gatefold of the original 16 vinyl tracks remastered on 200-gram vinyl in a gatefold jacket will also be made available.

In addition, the "Superunknown" singles and associated b-sides with newly interpreted artwork sleeves by Josh Graham will be reissued on Record Store Day, April 19, as a set of five limited-edition 10-inch vinyl records.

Soundgarden kick off their 2014 live schedule in Lima, Peru on March 27; they’ll follow that up with dates at Lollapalooza in Chile, Argentina and Brazil.

Would love to hear these songs in 5.1 but not sure if I want to spend the $$$ on a deluxe set with vinyl.

Got the 4CD/1 BDA edition today. Very impressive set. Arguably the best album of the 90s now on steroids.
