I gave up on Satriani after Crystal Planet in 1998 for no particular reason, I just sort of lost track as to what he was doing. I might get this as it appears there are 7 studio albums that I do not have.
Wikipedia lists 14 studio albums. So is the Wikipedia listing incorrect? Are they counting Time Machine as 2 since it was a double? Is the 15th disc a collection of odds and ends/rarities?

Yes to the 15th disc.
Not sure yet as to exactly what albums are going to be in there.
Time Machine might make it 15, but not sure as it wasn't all studio.

Joe Satriani will release “The Complete Studio Recordings”, a 15 CD box set featuring the guitarist’s anthology, on April 22.
All 14 of Satriani's studio albums – from “Not Of This Earth” (his 1986 debut) through 2013’s “Unstoppable Momentum” – are included in the new collection alongside "Added Creations and Bonus Tracks", a newly-compiled disc of rare compositions and performances.
“The Complete Studio Recordings” presents brand-new digital masters, overseen by Satriani, with each CD packaged in a replica cardboard jacket. The library collection is housed in a specially designed clamshell box with a booklet filled with photos and memorabilia from across the decades.
The package will also be available as a collectible, limited-edition USB drive.
The box set will be issued the same month as Satriani’s autobiography, “Strange Beautiful Music: A Musical Memoir."
“The Complete Studio Recordings” and Joe's book can be pre-ordered now via the Amazon links below.

If you're not nice
The Canadian and British pre-orders are up now too. All three links have been added to the first post, along with a very large image of the entire set.
The Canadian price is currently the lowest, about $40 less than the American cost, so once again I would recommend that we lock it in at Amazon Canada:

They must be only including disc one of Time Machine. I realize that this is a "studio" collection, but it still seems odd to only put half of that set into a collection.

A lot of Time Machine was stuff from his first EP and out takes, which could easily be combined with Dreaming #11 or the Additional Creations stuff. The rest could fit on a single disc.

Yeah, I already have a good amount of that bonus stuff, and to be quite frank, I lost interest somewhere after either Crystal Planet or Engines of Creation. Seeing him live a few months back didn't change my mind either.
I'll just get a couple of the Remasters and leave it at that.

According to comments elsewhere, there are tentative plans for a live companion set down the road...

If you're so inclined...John Cuniberti, who did the remastering for this box set and produced many of Satch's early albums and some later ones, made himself available on the Hoffman boards for a Q & A about the box set today. Starts at post #69 near the bottom of page 3 of this thread: http://forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/j ... et.342591/
Most of the questions were respectful and not delving into "One Flew Over the Audiophile's Nest" minutiae/arguments about discs sounding different based on printing plant location etc. etc. that have prompted several highly regarded industry professionals to take a hike into saner areas of cyberspace.
That's right—I said "most." One nimrod insists, despite Cuniberti's denial, that the "1st Japanese pressing" of Satch's classic Surfing With The Alien is a "unique mastering." To which Cuniberti responds:
Quote:
Bernie Grudman did the mastering and when he was done I took the tapes home with me. So unless someone broke into my house and stole the tapes and took them to Japan, with all due respect, you are wrong.
The nimrod INSISTS it must be so, because the two discs sound different on the nimrod's system. Cuniberti patiently explains:
Quote:
Because CD production was in it's infancy the calibration of level may have been slightly different from plants in Europe, the US and Japan. So if one CD version is a dB or so louder than the other that may be why. If that's the case adjust your playback level accordingly. You guys have way too much free time
One part of the discussion deals with the infamous "DR ratings." Since I started a thread specifically on that topic, I've excerpted specific parts of Cuniberti's comments dealing with DR at that thread (post #
