From USAToday.com:
How does a band celebrate the 40th anniversary of its recording career? With more recordings.
Kiss, which released its self-titled debut and Hotter Than Hell in 1974, will kick off a year of anniversary festivities with the April 1 arrival of 10 remastered Kiss albums on vinyl. Another 18 titles will be unleashed by mid-2014.
In May, the band delivers the two-CD Kiss 40 compilation containing one track from every major album, plus live cuts and an unreleased demo from 1977. The set includes such Kiss classics as Detroit Rock City, Love Gun, Beth, Rock And Roll All Nite, Psycho Circus, I Was Made For Lovin' You and Lick It Up.
And today, the foursome serves up Kissteria — The Ultimate Vinyl Road Case, a vinyl box set holding 34 Kiss LPs including titles never previously issued on vinyl. The limited-edition mother lode of Kiss music boasts 19 studio albums, all five Alive releases, the four original Kiss solo albums and six exclusive vinyl discs that will not be sold individually. Among the extras are 11 posters (including the band's first promo poster), a Kiss vinyl cleaning cloth, a Kiss turntable mat, Kiss dominos and four band lithographs. The box can be pre-ordered here. Visit KissOnline.com for details on all things Kiss.
The band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame April 10. The group is announcing a tour with Def Leppard today.

If you're not nice
Meanwhile, we have a specific release date for the Kiss 40 2-CD set -- May 27th -- and I've put the URL for Amazon's listing page into the opening post. The compilation is not yet pre-orderable, but should be soon.

They finally figured a way to get me to buy a comp for the first time in well over a decade by putting in some rarities. Still, I may wait to see if I can get this cheap.

Some fairly rare stuff here like "Nothing Can Keep Me From You", "Down On Your Knees", "Reputation" and the live tracks, so I'm getting this.
I am confused-3 solo tunes but none from Paul?
As for some big tunes missing-clearly they tried to go with one song only from each studio, comp and live record and then added some others live.
I love that "Shandi" and "A World Without Heroes" are both here.
Will this have new mastering?

The track listing on the Kiss website has "Hold Me, Touch Me" as being included on the compilation. So if that is correct then Paul's solo album will be represented.

There were some comments in a few stories recently (from both Peter Criss and Eric Singer, interestingly) that it's Paul who really runs KISS. Based on anecdotal evidence like this compilation...would have to agree. Of the 40 songs, only 11 sung solely by Gene ("Reputation" is a so-so Gene solo album demo), 3 by Peter (well, 3 1/2 if you count "Nothin' To Lose," so I guess that cuts Gene down to 10 1/2) and just 1 by Ace, leaving Paul with sole lead vocals on a whopping 23 (nearly 60%) of the 40 tracks. 2 tracks ("Shout It Out Loud" and "God Gave Rock 'N' Roll To You II" have Paul and Gene pretty much equally sharing lead vocals).
Also... the theme was one track from every album including the compilations (that's why we're subjected to "Let's Put The X In Sex") but "Nothing Can Keep Me From You"--a lame re-hash by the same writer of Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing"--is a really poor choice. Not that there was much chance of it being included, but there's an interesting studio re-recording of "Detroit Rock City" originally intended for the Detroit Rock City film soundtrack that was one of the last tracks the original four members ever played on together.

What an awful comp. Glad that it's not the same ol' same ol', but what they've chosen is pretty bad. It's a very strange tracklist.
I think IKONS is gonna go down as my fav KISS collection. They did a great job of highlighting the best from all four.
Can we get an ALIVE! album from the 80s/90s at some point PLEASE?! ALIVE III completely skipped a decade. I'd love to see stuff from the Creatures through Hot In The Shade tours make it onto disc at some point.
Gene loves money. Why no career-spanning live box with one disc per tour? Quit re-hashing the f-ing greatest hits and go into the vaults for stuff people really want!
