What do you give the band that has achieved their dreams and more? Answer: More time in the studio. REO's thirteen year overnight success had propelled the band to the moon and beyond. Hi Infidelity , their previous album, achieved platinum status ten times over, hogging the #1 spot on the US album charts for an incredible fifteen weeks, whilst the hit single Keep On Lovin' You became a mainstay of American radio play. From their hometown of Champaign, Illinois to drinking Champagne from crystal glasses, the band suddenly became the most talked about act in the country.
Following up Hi Infidelity was never going to be easy, a fact not helped by pressure from their label to deliver another album with super human speed. Internally all was not wine and roses either, front man and prominent songwriter Kevin Cronin was dealing with a bout of writers block and a growing feeling of uncertainty about the band's new found pop star notoriety. Fortunately help was on hand from the rest of the band, including guitarist Gary Richrath and bassist Bruce Hall, stepping up to the plate and providing enough material to put the project back on the straight and narrow.
Issued in 1982, Good Trouble is yet another fine slice of American Midwest hard rock. Keep The Fire Burnin , I'll Follow You , Stillness Of The Night and the title track easily pick up were the band had left off, kicking and punching their way back to the top of the charts and our hearts. A firm foundation for even more success next time around. Track listing: Keep The Fire Burnin'; Sweet Time; Girl With The Heart Of Gold; Every Now & Then; I'll Follow You; The Key; Back In My Heart Again; Let's Be-Bop; Stillness Of The Night; Good Trouble

REO Speedwagon formed in 1967 and recorded eight studio albums before hitting pay dirt with 1980's ten million selling Hi Infidelity ; a record containing the all-conquering number one single Keep On Loving You ; but the follow up album Good Trouble , stalled at a meagre two million copies and failed to produce a big hit, exposing the band to talk of being a spent force. Nothing, however, could have been further from the truth.
There is an old adage never write off a band until the fat lady sings. And for REO Speedwagon, historically always the underdogs, fuelled only by unswerving optimism, this was to be their finest hour. Faced with possible extinction if they were unable to come up with the goods for album eleven, they hunkered down, refocused and constructed a record every bit as accessible as Hi Infidelity . Armed with better songs and a do or die attitude the results were spectacular.
Wheels Are Turning , originally issued in 1984, was an unqualified success, going platinum several times over and producing two bonafide hit singles in One Lonely Knight and the blockbusting number one, Can't Fight This Feeling . It was also a record that truly married the band's historical hard rock sensibilities with their penchant for writing catchy melodic pop rock propelled by Kevin Cronin's unique vocals and Gary Richrath's searing lead guitar playing. A truly satisfying record of both power and passion. Track listing: I Do' Wanna Know; One Lonely Night; Thru The Window; Rock n Roll Star; Live Every Moment; Can't Fight This Feeling; Gotta Feel More; Break His Spell; Wheels Are Turnin'
