The remixed version of VAPOR TRAILS will also be included in the new 7-disc boxed set RUSH: THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007, which features every studio album Rush recorded for Atlantic Records. The collection includes the Gold & Platinum albums Presto (1989), Roll The Bones (1991), Counterparts (1993), and Test For Echo (1996), as well as their covers EP Feedback (2004) and the Billboard Top 5 album Snakes & Arrows (2007). THE STUDIO ALBUMS 1989-2007 features each album presented in a wallet sleeve that faithfully reproduces the original artwork (except for VAPOR TRAILS, which features a reinterpreted version of the original cover) and is also available on October 1 from Atlantic/Rhino.

It doesn't state so here, so I'm guessing not, but does anyone know if any of the albums in this set (other than Vapor Trails) has been remastered again for the box?

I worked at Atlantic Records during the early part of their time with the label (from Presto through Counterparts), and Presto continues to be my favorite Rush album since the Mercury years ended (with Clockwork Angels being a close second). I hope they've remastered everything in this box, although depending on the price I might still get this to have the remixed Vapor Trails and a box that will sit alongside my "Sector" box sets.

Everything up to Test For Echo was already remastered-I believe it was 2002 or maybe 2004? Can't remember but I have them all. Presto remains one of my very favorite Rush albums and it was great to hear them play "Presto" a few years ago live.

I never got the remasters because I always thought the original pressings were sufficient (although Presto does sound a little flat now). For the right price it'll be nice to get all of these remastered. Glad I'm not the only one showing Presto some love.

These are being issued in Japan as SHM-CDs/mini-LPs. CDJapan states that:
- Presto, Roll the Bones and Counterparts use the 2004 remasters - Vapor Trails = remix/remaster -Test For Echo, Feedback and Snakes & Arrows are not remastered
I would expect the American versions will be the same.

As I figured but Test For Echo WAS remastered in 2004 so that might be an error. This is still a good collection for people for sure.

I have the other Atlantic remasters. They sound way better than the original pressings, by far. Roll The Bones sounds much sweeter than it originally did.
As for the Vapor remix, I'll get the single disc version instead of this box set.

Turns out ALL of these albums are newly remastered by the same guy who did the Sector boxsets.
I really like the 2004 remasters, so I see no need to get these (and I've read that the packaging blows), but I am curious if these sound different.
I will get the Vapor Trails remix even though I dislike the album musically and see what I think with a new mix.
Why could they not just state that from the start? Where did this info come from? Is it on the sleeves? I opted for the single VT remix, so I will be pissed if these are actually better than the previous remasters.

Don't have it, don't know but it's Andy van Dette just like the last box sets.
It was all over Amazon and many fans were pissed that they didn't know in advance. Why wouldn't Atlantic promote that fact? I'm pretty sure even Feedback and Snakes & Arrows were remastered for the first time-I think it's everything.
Not sure what I will do, but I love the 2004 remasters so I doubt I will bite, especially with the weak packaging.

I also bought the single disc VT remaster, only to discover later that VanDette has remastered everything in the box. The folks over at the Steve Hoffman forum seem particularly pleased with the Presto remaster, which is said to sound much less "thin" that previous versions.

I'll stay with the last batch of these remasters. They sound better than the first cd releases. I see no need to buy these discs again for the third time.
I have VT on order though. I always thought that disc sounded horrendous.

Can anyone comment on the packaging of this box set? Pete mentioned that he's read the packaging sucks, but I'd like to find out more specifics. At the very least I want to make sure that all of the original packaging elements (lyrics, credits and, to a lesser extent, photos) are included. Optimally I'd love to get rid of the original CD pressings (I never got the remasters) and put this box next to the Sector box sets, but not at the expense of those packaging elements.

Rich: Not sure, but I believe there are no lyrics, photos or credits-just cardboard sleeves. No booklet either I believe.

I'm really hoping the booklet in the photo is included in the box and it contains lyrics & credits. That's what they did with each of the Sector boxes, but of course this is a different record label so who knows.
Edit: I just read some comments at Amazon and it appears that the booklet includes lyrics but any photos & credits (which are always fun to skim through for their inside jokes) have been omitted from this set. That's a missed opportunity, since they wouldn't have taken up much more space and they could've kept the cost as low as it is. Oh well. I'll still probably get this but will likely hold on to my original pressings.
