All three of the Vandenberg albums were really good records. Had all of them on vinyl and snapped up the CDs when they first became available in Japan. As far as the States, I'm guessing they did much better in the midwest than in other parts of the country. I am in Wisconsin and the local top 40 stations (not album rock stations, top 40 stations) played the crap out of "Burning Heart."
For years I really looked forward to more stuff with Vandenberg but got very little and, to be honest, IMO nothing he did after those three Vandenberg albums was very good. I didn't like the stuff he did with Whitesnake at all and the Manic Eden album was very mediocre. Still disappointed that Whitesnake did not do a version of "Burning Heart," as Coverdale had mentioned it in several interviews that he wanted to record it. A version of "Burning Heart" with Coverdale's voice...wow!
I agree Joseph-Adrian was brilliant but his best moments were with Vandenberg. I did like his work with Whitesnake at times-but too much of it was obnoxious noodling aside from the acoustic stuff he did with Coverdale which was great.
I thought I had read Whitesnake did do a version of "Burning Heart" which never got released or finished. Maybe I'm wrong. "Burning Heart" was all over MTV and was a Top 40 singles in 1983. Looked like Vandenberg would be a big deal but either Atco Records screwed it up, or the band were just too sophisticated for US audiences.
