Both items are big news. Glad to hear "Lark's Tongues..." is in the pipeline.

Great news, hope EMI can put it out in a reasonable priced set, not a lavish LP / Book/ etc, etc for mega dollars.

as long as Thick As A Brick is "simple" (CD/DVD) package I'm in !
if however it's a super deluxe - CD/DVD/LP/Hard Back book/full size newspaper - package forget it !

This will be one of those "whatever the cost" for me.

I've been putting off listening to TAAB so that I can put this new version on with "fresh ears"... BTW, is there a release date for "Lark's Tongues"?? I've been waiting for that one, too!!!

The Crimson is due in October the last I heard. I was hoping at least one other one would accompany that too. To date they have all been issued in sets of 2 or 3.

Can't agree more than what my friend JohnG has to say about this.

Probably one of my fave Tulls albums of all time and of course seeing this tour at the Nassau Coliseum just iced it for me.

I've linked the Burning Shed site but I would highly recommend NOT ordering from them if you are in the US. Burning Shed have excellent service but they charge an arm and a leg to ship overseas. Still no listing at Amazon.

https://www.burningshed.com/store/jethrotull/

Jethro Tull - Thick As A Brick (40th Anniversary Special Edition) (cd/dvd preorder)

The glorious 40th anniversary edition of Jethro Tull's conceptual masterpiece, Thick As A Brick.

The CD features a new mix of the album by Steven Wilson, while the DVD contains 5.1 DTS & Dolby Digital surround sound mix, high quality stereo 96/24 (new mix), the original 1972 stereo mix flat transferred to 96/24 PCM (directly from the Morgan Studios recording by Robin Black), plus a 1972 radio ad.

The original TAAB newspaper, an article by Classic Rock's Dom Lawson, rare photos by Didi Zill and Robert Ellis, recording/touring mementos and much more are contained in a 104 page hardback book.

Pre-order now for 5th November release.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

Jethro Tull - Thick As a Brick / Thick As a Brick 2 (Special Vinyl Collection preorder)

Thick As A Brick (2012 Steven Wilson mix) and Thick As A Brick 2 combined in a double 180gm vinyl set with an accompanying 72 page book.

The book contains:

* the original TAAB 1 newspaper rebuilt for the 12 x 12 format on 16 pages of newspaper style paper
* the 2012 TAAB 2 newspaper printed on gloss paper (originally pdf files on the DVD).
* an article by Classic Rock's Dom Lawson about TAAB 1.
* an Ian Anderson interview conducted by The Reverend George Pitcher covering both albums, and the 2012 TAAB tour.
* many rare 1972/73 photos from photographers Didi Zill and Robert Ellis covering 'street' and live situations as well as the 2012 tour
* photos by Martin Webb.
* memories of the recording from engineer Robin Black.
* recording and touring memories from Martin Barre, Ian Anderson and Jeffrey Hammond.
* a Q & A with tour manager Eric Brooks with tour memorabilia and the full 1972 itinerary.
* Italian and German lyric translations of the original album and German, Czech, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Portuguese lyric translations for TAAB 2.

Pre-order now for 5th November release.

If that Amazon UK listing includes everything described in the Burning Shed press release, including the 104-page hardbound book, the price (£28.08) is very reasonable.

Out of my frustration for the lack of high-res 5.1 in this set, I followed in the footsteps of Paul Sinclair by writing an open letter to Ian Anderson. I've posted it here (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... tif_t=like) on the Jethro Tull Facebook page, and I will also email it to Ian as well.
If you agree with what I've said, simply like the post and/or add a comment below.

Will this change anything for this release? Probably not, but I'm still hopeful that we can change things for the better for any future releases.
Thank you.

Go STEVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Glad he went 96/24 PCM on the dvd. Still trying to figure out WHY the ELP's are only 48/24 MLP.

It would be nice to at least get a hi-rez DVDA on the DVD disc. Glad the stereo is 96/24 PCM.

John, as long as it's 96/24 PCM, dvd-a vs dvd-v will not effect the sound. Dolby would damage the sound, but they offered a Dolby option on the ELP discs!

Strange there is no out-takes at all, considering the large amount of sessions recording this concept album.

Not much here to be excited about other than a new Wilson mix. Nothing wrong with the old one. I may pass.

The outtakes were a major draw for me on the Aqualung remix; I assumed all along that there would be some for this release, too. I don't do 5.1 or surround sound, there's no visual content on the DVD, and I don't like odd-shaped packaging (like the book this is going to be) for storage purposes. I don't know which is more disappointing, this or Gabriel's "So" disaster. I may get it anyway, since I love TAAB, but not unless it's cheap.
