OK-I don't get this at all. The remasters EMI put out from 1974-1986 were absolutely awesome. So, what is the point of this set?
Well, there's the "Rock Bottom" single edit and 3 BBC sessions from 1974 NOT on the Phenomenon remaster and a live show from Atlanta in 1974!
Later there's the single mix of "Try Me" and 3 BBC sessions from 1977. As well, the single version of "Only You Can Rock Me" is included.
AND, there are 2 single non-album tracks from the legendary live album Strangers In The Night in the edit of "Doctor Doctor" which was a hit and "On With The Action" which did not appear on the album!
OK, this is great. Sort of.
Why the hell were these things not on the remasters to begin with???
Do I really want to buy this thing for those rare cuts and have the albums chopped up on seperate discs? I also wonder how this thing is packaged (i.e. are they in crappy cardboard sleeves, jewel cases or is it an actual box set setup?).
I am intrigued and angered. This is one of my most beloved bands, so I'll have to think about this one. I wonder if a second box will also be issued?
For the fellow UFO fans on here I wanted to let you know about this (I've been meaning to post this for a few weeks) and hear your thoughts!

By the way, the price is nuts-only 11.99 GBP! I checked AmazonUK and not one idiot who reviewed it details the physical aspects just telling us what we already know.

Pete, I think it's a "fatboy" jewel case package, like the previous Robin Trower and Ten Years After sets.

EDIT: Wait a minute, if it's five CDs, then... Well, I don't know! Carry on...

When did it come out? I'll be in Manchester tomorrow, so I'll have a look for it in the shops.

As I was reading down the track listing I was getting a bit annoyed about how they've mixed everything up across the discs. And like IP says, there's already perfectly acceptable versions of all these albums out there, plus the Live At The BBC set, and the live shows compilation which came out a couple of years ago (although the sound quality is quite variable on that.) I don't feel any urge to get this set.

Saw them with Paul Chapman on guitar on the No Place To Run tour in '79, when they were good, and again with Vinnie Moore on guitar about 6 or 7 years ago, when they were embarrassing.

Well, its getting a USA release in August:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0053V5Y20/?tag=imwan-20

At under 18 bucks I'll try just about anything related to this band. So I placed a pre-order. Just for the 1974 stuff alone this should be well worth the cash.

Update from your intrepid reporter -

I saw this in HMV (the shop, not the website) today for £18. It's in an old style double cd jewel case, e.g like The Wall, Delicate Sound Of Thunder, Moonflower etc, so they must have done something clever with the trays. It's clear plastic though, which meant that although it's shrink-wrapped, I could see from the top down that there seems to be quite an extensive booklet in there.

One thing I did notice is that the live versions of Hot 'N Ready and Cherry, which were on the Strangers.....reissue, are nowhere to be seen.

Thanks Harry-I'm passing on this-I love the remasters and just don't need this. And those old style 2CD cases are garbage!

I have the old not-remastered Chrysalis cd's and like them alot better than the remasters that I've heard.

Maybe this set will use the older mastering and add all the bonus material to bait us in.

Probably just wishful thinking, but the last three attempts at remastering are laughable bad and the original Chrysalis discs and Japan Past Masters are getting harder to find.

Well, the latest remasters by Peter Mew sound laughingly excellent to me-so whatever. The old UFO CDs sounded like shit.
This set is nothing more than rehash with a few bonus cuts.

Don't know who you are, but you seem like a genius. By all means continue to post things like this and see the productivity it causes.
I wonder if anytime someone doesn't agree that something is "laughably bad" you react with such wit.
I look forward to each and every post from you from this point onward, and when you tell me something is "laughably bad" I will know with 1000% accuracy that you are indeed correct. I applaud your wisdom.

The last batch of remasters sounded fantastic. And I have all the earlier releases.

Sad to see that this is now such a pricy item. I bought mine for 2 dollars in the last days of the Times Square Virgin Megastore before they went belly up. They were dumping off Japanese imports for under 5 clams then. The good old days!

Disc Two is the reason to get this (the 1974 Atlanta show).

As far as I know (but I could be wrong) that has never been released before and is not (yet) available anywhere else.

I don't care about the rest of the tracks but I want that Atlanta show.

Under $18? Damn. It is $38 now (the mp3s are $18 though).

Glad they're at least releasing it here. I was about to post that it seems like like this sort of thing is mostly European only these days.
Wish I would have caught it when it was under $18 also. I've never really gotten into UFO (other than Doctor Doctor), but at $18 I likely would have checked it out.

I truly worship these guys, but there wasn't quite enough for me to get this-not at $38. I did see it when it was $18 but still passed just because there's so much coming out this fall I have to save money for.
But for a casual fan this is a load of awesome. What a band and what music.

The fat cases that hold 3-6 discs are pretty readily available from the usual internet sources & I have found them really useful. Problem is since the USPS cracked down on shipping cases without discs as media mail, the freight for any cases has become prohibitively expensive.
