Documentary soundtrack featuring alternate mixes, remixes, and a demo -- not sure how much, if any, of this was on the box set. I'll see what I can find out. Release date of June 25.

According to this, all versions are previously unreleased:

There's also a double LP version on on the Omnivore label.

I'm seeing the documentary at Grammy Museum Tuesday night.

It was great. Really informative, and for the most part, well done. At 2 hours, I might have recommended a little editing. But that is a minor complaint really. As an added bonus, they gave Grammy Museum members a copy of the soundtrack.

Thanks. I want to see this so badly. The clips I've seen looked really cool, but then it's hard to imagine anything about Big Star that isn't really cool.

After the screening, there was an interview with the movie producer and Jody Stephens. He seems to be a really good guy, and it made for a perfect post-movie interview. He also played a few songs after, and had a voice that sounded a lot like a blending of Alex and Chris.

I took a few pix, but I think you need to be on Facebook to see these

Thanks for the posting. Will be looking forward to both the doc & soundtrack. Having the Rhino box set on these guys really displays the talents that they truly were.

Have you ever seen Big Star live? Jody's songs were always an unexpected high point.

I did once in the 90's. All Tomorrow's Parties at Royce Hall. Come to think of it, I grabbed the set list that night too.

This CD arrived today. Big Star fans, don't miss this. Some of these versions are even better than the original LP tracks, in my opinion, and some just as good. If this was a new band releasing a new album in 2013, it would be the record of the year.

It just drives home once again how great this band was.

+1  I have the Rhino box on them and thought I probably don't need this but indie got me a copy and picked it up over the weekend. You are so right Greg, excellent disc, could be my go to disc when I need to hear these guys. Now I am really psyched to see the doc.
