May have to get this, as my collection is Mott-less.

Looks like a fine comp for those who don't already own the 4 essential CBS Mott albums. And the first 8 are the early Island period. Other than possibly Lounge Lizard (do we have a Mott demo of the Hunter solo track??) it looks to me like there's nothing new here.

No Mott in my collection either so this may be of interest. Am I correct in assuming this is their Sony material only?

Is a good compilation if you have no Mott.

Excellent pre-order price at $13.99 for a two CD set. There is also a sweet Essential Harry Nilsson two CD set for the same pre-order price.

I haven't played it in a long time, but what I remember is that the Hunter solo version has got Mick Ronson all over it, and ths one hasn't. Which is undoubtedly why I haven't played it in a long time!

As I kinda mentioned above, Mott's CBS period was so amazing I would recommend getting the 4 expanded CBS releases (especially at today's bargain basement prices), as opposed to this set.

Geff, you are correct. Full albums are the only way to go. Also, get the expanded Live 2CD set; one of the best live sets of all time.

The self-titled 1st album with the lizards on the cover is essential too.

I agree with Geff the remasters are the way to go, but for a casual fan, I don't see how anyone could really complain about this collection. I wouldn't have expected this, but I was hoping some songs from the 2 Mott albums would make it, as I've never heard them.I think those were on Columbia too but I might be wrong.

While I own the post Hunter Mott albums (& the spin off British Lions albums), imo the 2 post Hunter Mott albums aren't very good. The 1st British Lions is probably the best of the bunch.

I have the Mott The Hoople boxed set from several years ago so I doubt that I need this set unless there are tracks that weren't on the box.

It's a great box. I own that one also. It doesn't appear that there's anything exclusive here; just another comp for new or casual fans.
