This item is now available for PRE-ORDER ONLY. Item is estimated to ship May 1, 2013.

2 complete shows, once missing reels filled with never-before-heard material, a previously unheard and quite majestic 1969 "Dark Star," a first-ever version of "New Speedway Boogie," a second-ever version of "Mason's Children".... We can hardly contain our excitement about Dave's Picks Volume 6. The first major return of material to the vault since 2005's Houseboat Tapes, Dave's Picks Volume 6 will feature 2 complete shows with never-before-heard material from 2/2/70 Fox Theater, St. Louis, MO and 12/20/69 Fillmore Auditorium, San Francisco, CA. Long a mystery, the riddle of the 2/2/70 set list has now been solved and the music restored to its proper - and spectacular - sequence. 2/2/70 is also notable as the first show without Tom Constanten. Tom, however, makes his return to give his first-hand perspective on 12/20/69 in this volume's liner notes.Pigpen fiends, ask and you shall receive. Both shows feature loads of Pigpen including a major 35+ minute "Lovelight" from 12/20/69. Recorded by Bear with an excellent mix and sound quality, this very special release feels like a return to the classics.

I don't know how many are available after the subscriptions, but this should sell out real fast.

I think I read somewhere that the bonus subscribers disc is supposed to be from 12/21/69 Fillmore

Charles is correct (and approx 10,000 of the 13,000 have been snatched via subscrivers). While no set list yet for the bonus, the following was on the site:

http://www.dead.net/store/music/live-sh ... bscription

If you've been curious about the subscribers-only bonus disc, this one is the stuff of lore as well. Like Dave's Picks Volume 6, the last-ever Grateful Dead show at the Fillmore Auditorium - 12/21/69, was once missing reels, but we've acquired the elusive first reel to go with the end of the show that we've always had. This jam-packed CD, featuring 75 minutes of music (almost 40 minutes of never-before-heard), includes one of only three versions of "Smokestack Lightning" from 1969. You most certainly won't want to miss out on this highly collectible Dead!

Ahhh, I love those "The new phone book's here! The new phone book's here!" Moments. A day after I received the shipping notice, it arrived last night. I am definately looking forward to playing this tonight and throughout the weekend. Bonus is pretty sweet looking, though not in front of me.

so far me likey...granted there is a lot of duplicate songs between the two shows on the 3 discs (and bonus), but very good. I have to admit my favorite section of music of all time has always been when the drums tighten out of a solo(s) into the rythmic pattern that leads into Lesh's bass of the Other One. Always gets me going.

Listening to the bonus right now. Not my favorite period (I prefer about a year later), but not bad at all either. Already heard a couple unique (to me anyway) arrangements on the bonus disc.

I love this release (+ bonus disc).....glad that these tapes were found. Both Dark Stars are really good. I love hearing the new rough versions of the Workingman's Dead material.....even stressing the word rough (esp. in the case of "New Speedway Boogie." As far as I'm concered, there can't be enough versions of "Mason's Childen"......always been a favorite, though part may be the mystique that not up until Dick's Pick 4 (2/13-14/70), this was considered the one well-loved original GD song that never had an official release.......I think the 1st time it appeared in any form on CD is when Henry Kaiser recorded it on his Those Who Know History Are Doomed To Repeat It album.....(which is really good if none of you have ever heard it).

The Lovelight and Good Lovin's are a little too long, but I've never been a fan of the long Pigpen songs (I'm in the minority).

You're not. I love Pigpen, but the raps tend to go long, and for me don't hold up well for repeated listening, though I would have loved to see him do them.

Charles, I'm with you on PP also. Never thought he fit in at all with the Dead.

I've added the link to Dan's opening post as well. You guys will have to confirm for me whether this is the same package or missing something that was only available through the Dead's website.

Same package - including the bonus disc. Boy, for the price one could have had the subscription (or I should have had two).

Doesn't the bonus disc make it four discs, not three?

Dave's Pick 6 is actually three discs. The 2013 Dave's Subscription bonus disc actually is from 12/2069. Not technically part of the DP 6 Vol 6. maybe next year I will order two and parcel out the second one (just kidding).
