I'm always in for more INXS, but hasn't this been done to death already? If there are truly original versions of the tunes (like acoustic versions, instrumentals, etc.) them it would be worth it. Remixes and b-sides that weren't good enough to go on the other 2 or 3 versions of the album, I could probably do without. i'd be more interested in a live disc from the tour as one of the discs.

Besides, do enough people even care?

Thanks, Morgan. I'm definitely in for this one. Here's hoping for Region 0/NTSC on the DVD.

Hopefully Rhino will release this in the US. I agree that this album has been reissued too many times already, but none of the reissues did it justice. There were always a ton of great remixes that were left off, even with the previous 2CD deluxe version in the UK. Hopefully with three CDs, they'll have room for all the remixes and b-sides, plus some stuff we haven't heard before.

The USA "remaster" is wretched. I hope they do a decent mastering job this time.

That is a terrible remaster Geff. Supposedly the new ones from last year were brickwalled beyond belief which means this would be too as they're not remastering it again.

From superdeluxeedition.com:

As if it wasn’t enough to have Michael Jackson‘s Bad (Sony), Peter Gabriel‘s So (EMI) and the Sex Pistol’s Never Mind The Bollocks.. box sets released on the same day (Sep 17th), Mercury Records have decided they want a piece of that particular action and have scheduled the long-rumoured INXS Kick Super Deluxe Edition for the very same Monday in September.

Although we would have preferred the superior Welcome To Wherever You Are to get a 20th anniversary reissue, the labels will always ensure they have squeezed every dollar out of the big popular releases before moving on to less commercially successful fare.

To that end the Kick 25, the Super Deluxe Edition, will be a 3CD+DVD set featuring two bonus discs of remixes, demos, and unheard tracks.

The DVD will feature a documentary, unseen band home footage and promo videos

Also included in the set is a ‘Story of Kick’ hard back book, a poster and a sticker sheet.

Released in 1987, Kick (the band’s sixth album) sold over six million units in the US alone that year. The album spawned four hit singles in New Sensation, Never Tear Us Apart, Devil Inside and Need You Tonight. All went top ten in the US on the Billboard Hot 100 with Need You Tonight hitting the top spot.

Kick 25 will also come as a two-disc cheaper variant, although as the specs and track listings are still to be officially announced it is not clear if this is a 2CD or CD+DVD set. At the time of writing this release has only appeared on UK retail

If the mastering sucks (as IP suggests above), I'd be passing. The content isn't that compelling.

I agree Geff-pretty lackluster and crazy expensive.
Now, as far as the remastering many on New Wave Outpost complained about these, but here's the best example I could find (again, everyone will hear differently but here it is)...

I tested these remasters out in my car last night. I'm disappointed. I've said this before, and I'll say it again ... I actually like compressed (brickwalled) remasters. However, there comes a time when it goes too far (i.e. 'So80s' series), and it sounds awful and too loud. Now while the INXS remasters do not push the same limits that the 'So80s' series does they are still very loud. The real problem, however, is that many, if not most, of the tracks have a very harsh, brittle sound. The mastering engineer, Giovanni Scatola, brought the highs up too much, making them sound like my speakers are going to crack. On the other hand, I like that the bass has been cranked up quite a bit, giving the tracks a nice boost. However, I'm not sure what kind of compression was used, but it doesn't work here. It almost sounds like "radio" compression was used because the songs sound more like they come from the radio than an original CD sound. The dynamics of most of the tracks are gone. It's like I'm listening to a shrill wall of sound on many tracks. I like loud mastering, but not when the highs are shrill and the audio sounds like it has been lifted from the radio. The music doesn't sound natural. Some songs benefit slightly from this (i.e. "Don't Change"), but others sound horrible ("New Sensation" is screeching!) It's a shame that these remasters weren't given to someone else. I'm really not sure what the mastering engineer was going for here, unless he was just doing what the record label ordered. (The Echo & The Bunnymen best of from a few years back was remastered by the same person, but it sounds good, in my opinion). I feel like the songs have lost their original sound. Sad, considering I am owning many of these albums in my collection for the first time.

The statement, "I actually like compressed (brickwalled) remasters. However, there comes a time when it goes too far" scares the heck out of me. These must really be bad!

Sound issues aside, there are several remixes and b-sides missing from that track list, including "Guns in the Sky (Kookaburra Remix)," "Need You Tonight (Ben Liebrand Remix)" and more. Why release a super-deluxe box if you're not even going to include all the material?
