Between 1972 and 1983, Foghat made thirteen albums for the Bearsville label, which Edsel is now proud to release in six top value packages. Foghat was formed when Lonesome Dave Peverett (lead vocals, guitar), Tony Stevens (bass), and Roger Earl (drums) left the British blues band Savoy Brown and added lead/slide guitarist Rod Price in January 1971. Foghat then
went on to enjoy massive success in the US throughout the 70s, with virtually every album going gold (or even platinum), while attracting a fervent but cult audience at home in Europe.
This package contains the first two albums. Foghat (1972) was produced by Dave Edmunds at Rockfield Studios, and starts with a thunderous version of Willie Dixon s I Just Want To Make Love To You . This recording is being used for the opening titles of E4 s new comedy sketch series Cardinal Burns , which starts transmission at the end of March.
Second album Rock And Roll (as depicted on the cover) was released in 1973 and went gold in the US, selling over half a million copies. Ably demonstrating the band s love of American blues, boogie and rock n roll, the album was produced by
Tom Dawes, mainstay of Sixties folk-pop hit makers The Cyrkle.
The package contains all the lyrics (for the first time) and brand new extensive notes by Bearsville Records expert Paul Myers (author of A Wizard, A True Star: Todd Rundgren In The Studio ), who has interviewed Roger Earl specially for these re-issues, Dave Peverett and Rod Price having sadly passed away. Roger Earl still tours with a new line-up of the band.

Fool For The City (1975) was Foghat s breakthrough album, earning a double platinum certification for over 2 million copies sold. The eight minute epic Slow Ride became the band s signature tune, and a 4 minute edited version reached # 20 in US singles charts. The song even features in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV: San Andreas .
Night Shift (1976) was produced by Dan Hartman (before he became the king of disco-pop), a member of Edgar Winter s White Trash, whose output bore some similarity to Foghat s albums. The album features Drivin Wheel as well as Foghat's take on the Al Green classic, Take Me To The River (later also made famous by Talking Heads), the first of many contemporary soul covers recorded by the band. The bonus track is an album outtake, not issued until 1996.
