Stumbled across this today. Liked the album when I was very young and the title track was a big hit; will probably give it a try here. Doubt it will stay in print for very long, and the price is right at $9.99. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B007PWXRK6/?tag=imwan-20

While the Coven version of "One Tin Soldier" (a.k.a. "The Legend of Billy Jack") has appeared on several 70s collections, the Original Caste version has been well-nigh impossible to find on CD. I'm in for this reissue.

I bought the Japanese equivalent of this CD 5 or more years ago - and it was all taken from vinyl - the songs that were on the original album sounded good on this CD though, while the bonus cuts (all non-LP singles and B-sides) sounded horrible, and very evident that it was from vinyl. This label doing the new release, Fuel 2000, may have just used the Japanese CD as their master. They're an extremely low budget label and their "Best of Gallery" CD came from vinyl (though their Kenny Nolan CD came from master tapes because Kenny himself provided them.) The Original Caste material originally came out on TA, a division of Bell, bought up by Arista, bought out by BMG, now owned by Sony. So who knows if anyone would even know where master tapes are stored that could be used for this CD? Anyone buying this new (Fuel 2000) CD, please listen carefully on headphones and tell us if it's from vinyl. It'll be especially obvious on the song "Ain't That Tellin' You People" because you can hear the "worn-out record" quality of it, if not necessarily pops and clicks. The Japanese label used software to remove most of the record noises, but it was still all from vinyl.

I suspect this is taken directly from the Japanese CD. The album sounds quite good; the bonus material does not, especially the two tracks that were taken from their last non-LP single. I'm quite happy with the purchase, though. It's great to have "One Tin Soldier" and "Mr. Monday" on disc and in this good a quality.
