When band has not one, not two, but three releases entitled Live Dates, it's a pretty good bet that the band in question is pretty good in concert. And in the case of Wishbone Ash, that's an understatement; various line-ups of the group have been rocking the globe with their patented brand of twin-guitar hard/progressive rock for 40 years now. Though Live Dates (1973) charted, and Live Dates III (2001) is well thought-of by their fanbase, it s Live Dates II (released in 1980 and assembled from various 1976-1980 shows) that's considered the real gem of the three; it's a much better quality live recording than its predecessor, and it ranks as probably the key document of the Wishbone Ash Mk. II line-up of guitarists Andy Powell (he of the Flying V) and Laurie Wisefield, bassist Martin Turner and drummer Steve Upton. This album never came out in the U.S.; what's more, only the first 25,000 copies released in Britain included an extra bonus LP, the contents of which we've included on this 79-minute CD (Live Dates II was only briefly available on CD before in a Japanese limited edition that came out last year and is already fetching triple figures online). A wish (sorry) come true for Ash fans and for '70s rock guitar fans, too check out "F.U.B.B." and "The Way of the World" for some serious axe-slaying.

Never thought I'd see this one, but my friend in Japan sent me the Japanese remaster from last year which goes for serious bucks. I wonder who did the mastering for this or is it the same as last year's Japanese release? This is one seriously amazing live album, and much sought-after. I believe this was released in the US in 1982 as Hot Ash-is that correct? It would be nice to see more than this album remastered in the US! There's so many more missing but I believe the Japanese releases cover most of the classic catalogue.

Wow, amazing & great news.
Wishbone Ash probably have like 20-30 (or more) official live albums from over the years, but this one is my absolute favorite, and one of my favorite live albums ever. I sprung for the Japanese import last year, which I think sounds amazingly good (regardless of high levels and compression/clipping).
There was another version of this released around the time of the Japanese one that came from Germany I think, rumored to be a grey area pirate, possibly from vinyl but I forget the scoop on that.
Hot Ash on LP was kind of the USA equivalent of LDII, although slightly different, only has about half the tracks but additionally has 2 songs NOT on LIDII (crazy!). Somebody should put together the original LDII and the missing stuff from Hot Ash & just release that. I don't think Hot Ash has ever come out on CD btw.

Yes, you are right on that-Hot Ash has never been on CD and it does have fewer tracks but a few not on Live Dates II! Anyway, this is truly a big release-if handled properly. The classic Wishbone Ash stopped after 1983 (and maybe really a bit earlier), but the original guys did get back together for a few years and albums in the late 80's/ early 90's. After that it's been two sepearte version and I haven't bothered with either although I'm sure the musicianship is great. It's just sad and pathetic to see what happened there. The 500 live releases don't help. But the classic stuff is soooo good!

See my comment in the Tubes thread; I have some question as to whether these are official releases. Real Gone is known for unlicensed needle Drops of 50's Jazz.
These releases are also NOT mentioned in the news sections on the WA or Tubes official sites as of today.

Before the Japan SHM release, I made myself a 2 cdr set which included a clean needle drop of the German 2 LP set, a needle drop of the 2 tracks from Hot Ash, & filled out with live recordings from the same period taken from the Distillation box. Even though I bought the SHM set, I also kept my cdr comp, it's fun to listen to!

Maybe this is the same thing that came out already around the same time as the Japanese version, from some company in Germany, was rumored to be from the vinyl at the time, but I can't recall specific details.

Oops, I think you're right. They made a HUGE boo boo picking the name "Real Gone" then! It is also interesting that I couldn't find anything on either band's website; both bands tend to really push this sort of thing.
